About the Role:

The Dental Assistant plays a critical role in supporting dental professionals to deliver high-quality patient care within a dental practice. This position involves preparing treatment rooms, assisting dentists during procedures, and ensuring all instruments and equipment are properly sterilized and maintained. The Dental Assistant also manages patient records, schedules appointments, and provides compassionate support to patients to ease their experience. By maintaining strict infection control protocols and utilizing dental terminology accurately, the assistant helps uphold the safety and efficiency of the dental office. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to the smooth operation of dental services and the overall satisfaction and well-being of patients.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Dental Assisting program.
  • Certification in Infection Control and Sterilization procedures.
  • Basic proficiency with dental software such as Dentrix.
  • Strong understanding of dental terminology and body motion techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credential.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced dental office environment.
  • Additional training in patient communication and compassionate care.
  • Familiarity with advanced dental procedures and materials.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and HIPAA regulations related to dental practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and organize dental treatment rooms and instruments prior to patient appointments.
  • Assist dentists during dental procedures by handing instruments, managing suction, and ensuring patient comfort.
  • Perform sterilization and infection control procedures to maintain a safe clinical environment.
  • Manage patient records and update dental software systems such as Dentrix for scheduling and documentation.
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care instructions with compassion and clarity.
  • Monitor and maintain dental supplies inventory to ensure availability of necessary materials.
  • Support the dental team by trimming dental materials and preparing dental impressions as needed.

The required skills such as Dental Assisting and Dental Terminology are essential for accurately supporting dental procedures and communicating effectively with the dental team. Sterilization and Infection Control skills ensure the safety of both patients and staff by preventing cross-contamination. Proficiency in Body Motion techniques helps the assistant work ergonomically and efficiently during procedures. Compassion is vital for providing emotional support and comfort to patients, especially those who may experience anxiety. Familiarity with dental software like Dentrix enables the assistant to manage patient records and appointments seamlessly, contributing to the overall efficiency of the dental practice.
