GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY
An IT Point of Sale (POS) Specialist serves as the bridge between operations and technology. This role focuses on the installation, maintenance, and optimization of the hardware and software used to process customer transactions.
The IT POS Specialist is responsible for ensuring the seamless operation of all checkout and payment systems. This includes configuring POS terminals, integrated technologies, managing back-office servers, and providing rapid technical support to prevent downtime during peak business hours.
Requirements:ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITES
- System Deployment: Install and configure POS hardware (terminals, receipt printers, barcode scanners, and card readers) and software across multiple locations.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve hardware failures, software bugs, and connectivity issues. Perform regular system updates and patches.
- Database Management: Manage menu/product databases, pricing updates, and inventory synchronization within the POS ecosystem.
- Security & Compliance: Manage user permissions and ensure secure data encryption for all financial transactions.
- Vendor Liaison: Act as a point of contact for POS software providers and third-party hardware vendors. (Toast, Vista, Olo, Synergy Suite, InterCard)
- Training: Create documentation and train operators or staff on system features, troubleshooting basics, and new software rollouts.
- Reporting: Generate and analyze sales and inventory reports for management to help identify system trends or discrepancies.
- Integrated Systems: Supporting systems integrated with POS systems (e.g. Online ordering, loyalty, back of house, app).
Job Requirements
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of POS platforms.
- Networking: Understanding LAN/WAN, TCP/IP protocols, and Wi-Fi configurations specific to retail environments.
- Hardware Proficiency: Ability to repair or replace peripheral components (thermal printers, cash drawers, etc.).
- Problem-Solving: Ability to remain calm and work efficiently under pressure during system outages.
- Versatility: This role will be working with several systems across two different brands and is expected to gain expertise in the platforms used by both.
WORKING REQUIREMENTS/CONDITIONS?
- Education/Certification: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Experience Required:
- 2+ years in IT support, specifically within the retail or hospitality industry.
- Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or specific POS vendor certifications.
- Skills/Abilities:
- Uptime: Maintaining 99.9% availability of POS systems during business hours.
- Resolution Time: Meeting or exceeding SLA targets for "System Down" tickets.
- Accuracy: Successful rollout of menu or pricing changes with zero data entry errors.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION?
- Prolonged Sitting: Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a desk, using a computer, and analyzing data.
- Dexterity and Fine Motor Skills: Frequent use of a computer keyboard and mouse, as well as handling documents and data reports.
- Visual Acuity: Ability to read and interpret data, charts, and reports, with or without corrective lenses.
- Auditory Skills Ability to hear and understand conversations during meetings and phone calls, and to respond effectively.
- Mobility: Ability to move around the office environment, including walking to different departments or meeting rooms as needed.
- Occasional Lifting: Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds for tasks such as transporting files, office supplies, or presentation materials.
- Flexibility: Ability to adapt to varying physical demands based on the needs of the role, including managing multiple tasks and projects.
