Registered Nurse (RN)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Current NYS Registered Nurse (RN) license (copy required upon hire)
• Valid New York State Driver's License (copy required upon hire)
• Yearly Physical (required within 1 month of hire)
• CPR and First Aid Certification (American Red Cross or equivalent)

PREFERRED

• Experience with adolescent populations
• Knowledge of OCFS and Article 29-I VFCA Health Facility regulations

• 2:00 pm - 10:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Must be flexible to meet the program's needs, including participation in rotating weekend coverage and on-call responsibilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must be able to lift 25 lbs, assist with medical equipment, and move across campus buildings
• Must wear PPE and follow agency protocols during illness outbreaks or isolation procedures

OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION

To deliver comprehensive, high-quality, trauma-informed nursing care and health education to youth at The William George Agency by the NYS Office of Professions’ RN scope of practice and Article 29-I VFCA Health Facility guidelines. This role ensures routine, chronic, and urgent health services are provided effectively to youth in care while promoting best practices in documentation, infection control, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration in a residential care setting.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Maintain a courteous, respectful, and professional demeanor at all times when interacting with residents, internal staff, nursing and medical personnel, external healthcare providers, hospitals, parents, and other professionals involved in the coordination and delivery of resident medical care.

1. Conduct medical assessments, including 24-hour screenings, intake evaluations, and HIV risk assessments per regulatory guidelines
2. Conduct triage and provide first aid, blood draws, and manage chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes), and provide reproductive health education
3. Administer and reconcile prescribed medications per NYS and Article 29-I regulations using blister packs, strip packaging, EMAR, and tracking logs
4. Maintain compliance with immunization schedules and vaccine storage protocols (e.g., daily temperature logs, VIS documentation)
5. Document all services accurately and in a timely manner in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) (Welligent), including medical appointments, session notes, and medication administration.
6. Maintain compliance with recordkeeping, medical safety plans, clinic logs, and discharge/travel medication packaging
7. Collaborate with physicians, NP’s, behavioral clinicians, and residential staff to establish and monitor the youth’s treatment goals
8. Coordinate transport and accompany youth to on-/off-campus appointments as needed
9. Deliver trauma-informed education to youth on hygiene, chronic illness management, and safe health practices
10. Support staff education on OSHA, infection control, seizure protocols, and medication protocols as needed
11. Maintain clinic cleanliness, secure storage of medications, and supply inventory
12. Follow all protocols for off-campus referrals, incident follow-up, and post-op care
13. Participate in internal audits, quality improvement, and safety initiatives
14. Rotate on-call cell phone coverage to support after-hours needs
15. Record and report after-hours contacts per agency protocol
16. Support staff training related to medical procedures and medication protocols
17. Attend nursing, administrative, and agency-wide meetings as requested to support the needs of the clinic and the Agency
18. Assist in staff physical exams, including BP, Height, Weight, and BMI, and maintain written records for the medical clinic/personnel.
19. Perform other duties as assigned by the Medical Director, Nursing Supervisor, or Assistant Nursing Supervisor.
20. Responsible for adhering to and performing all duties by every safety standard, practice, and policy of The William George Agency.
21. Adhere to all rules, regulations, policies, and philosophy of The William George Agency and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.

The William George Agency for Children’s Services is located on a 650-acre campus nine miles northeast of Ithaca, in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. It is a private, not-for-profit residential treatment center licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) that serves both male and female youth between the ages of 12 and 21, and their families, who present with significant mental health issues, behavioral difficulties, and substance abuse issues.
