About This Position
About the Role:
The Floor Hand plays a critical role in the safe and efficient operation of oil and gas drilling rigs. This position is responsible for supporting drilling activities by handling equipment such as top drives, pumps, and downhole tools, ensuring all machinery is set up and maintained properly. The Floor Hand works closely with the drilling team to conduct pressure tests and assist in pipe fitting, contributing directly to the operational success and safety compliance of the rig. Additionally, the role involves mixing chemicals used in drilling fluids, which is essential for maintaining well integrity and optimizing drilling performance. Ultimately, the Floor Hand ensures that all tasks on the rig floor are executed with precision and adherence to safety standards, enabling continuous and effective drilling operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Driver's License
- Proven experience working in oil field operations, specifically with drilling equipment such as top drives and downhole tools.
- Knowledge of pressure testing procedures and safety standards in drilling environments.
- Ability to perform pipe fitting and mechanical assembly tasks safely and efficiently.
- Familiarity with mixing and handling chemicals used in drilling fluids.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in machine set-up and maintenance on drilling rigs.
- Certification or training in oil field safety and equipment operation.
- Experience with advanced drilling technologies and equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work in remote locations and under physically demanding conditions.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain drilling equipment including top drives, pumps, and downhole tools to support drilling operations.
- Assist in the setup and breakdown of machinery and rig components, ensuring all equipment is properly installed and functioning.
- Conduct pressure tests on equipment and piping systems to verify integrity and safety before and during drilling activities.
- Perform pipe fitting tasks, including handling, connecting, and securing drill pipes and related components.
- Mix and prepare chemicals used in drilling fluids according to specifications to maintain wellbore stability and performance.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and participate in safety meetings and drills to promote a safe working environment.
- Operate commercial vehicles as needed, requiring a valid CDL Class A license, to transport equipment and materials to and from the rig site.
