About This Position
Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The purpose of this position is to plan, develop and implement health, safety, and environmental compliance programs. This position will include performing safety and compliance audits to prevent injuries, reduce liability claims, and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Promote a proactive safety culture focused on continuous improvement and risk reduction.
- Ensures all accidents and injuries are investigated and documented to determine root causes and assists with developing corrective action plans to prevent reoccurrence.
- Review annual trends and conduct ergonomic studies based on injury data.
- Provides safety training guidelines for operations by reviewing current OSHA regulations and designing effective training programs to meet compliance requirements.
- Develop and facilitate a safety training program (confined space, electrical, fall protection, LOTO, powered industrial trucks, etc.) to include a training matrix incorporating all employees based on job title and types of training required in languages understood by the workforce.
- Performs onsite inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA and coordinates industrial hygiene services such as noise levels, equipment and air quality, etc.
- Evaluates and provides guidelines on safety equipment and supplies according to ANSI standard.
- Maintains high level of safety awareness and ensures consistency of safety program implementation by providing up-to-date information on all related safety matters to the management team and continuously working with supervisors and managers to effectively handle safety-related issues.
- Analyze safety reports, data, and statistics to identify trends/high-risk areas; initiate and coordinate the root cause analysis process to eliminate risk and hazard.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, assessments, and observations to identify and evaluate hazards and behaviors in the workplace and recommend solutions to minimize or eliminate risk.
- Consult in the safety review for new equipment and processes, during all stages of project management.
- Maintain safety communications including bulletin boards and PowerPoint slides, as needed.
- Maintain an inventory of safety supplies and order supplies as necessary.
- Track and facilitate employee safety awards program.
- Maintain OSHA 300/300A Reporting.
- Oversee Workers’ Compensation process.
- Travel to and provide EHS support to other locations quarterly.
- Expected to adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP and HACCP guidelines, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:
Associates Degree in Occupational Safety & Health or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in occupational safety & Health or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience working in an EHS function in a manufacturing facility with direct responsibility for EHS activity.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar EHS certification preferred.
- Working knowledge of EHS regulation with strong understanding of OSHA and EPA laws.
- Highly motivated, self-directed, innovative, and able to work independently or among teams with keen judgement, common sense, and resourcefulness.
- Operates with a high level of professionalism and integrity, including dealing with confidential information
- Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks and problem solve effectively.
- OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour training (or equivalent).
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
- Exceptional computer skills in Microsoft® Office Suite (Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, Word).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Bilingual communication skills (English/Spanish).
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification or the willingness to obtain certification.
