About This Position
Job Title: Senior Accountant
POSITION SUMMARY:
Working under the direction of the CFO, the Senior Accountant supports the organization’s financial operations with a focus on general ledger activities, reconciliations, and financial reporting. This position ensures accurate financial processing and timely reporting. This role is detail orientated, organized and experienced in nonprofit accounting organizations. The Y’s environment is a team culture; this role will support all areas in the success of the organizations mission and it’s financial stability.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversee the daily accounting activities required to maintain the associations general ledger
- Responsible for bank account reconciliations and cash management
- Prepare monthly journal entries
- Responsible for monitoring monthly grant activity
- Perform account reconciliation’s – including most balance sheet accounts
- Assist in preparation of monthly and annual financial statements
- Assist in annual audit preparation
- Assist in the preparation of annual department budgets
- Attend and participate in all mandatory staff meetings
- Attend monthly Finance Committee meetings and prepare accurate meeting minutes
- Weekly software backup
- Process quarterly state sales tax
- Assists other association personnel in resolving complex accounting issues
- Make and implement recommendations to improve accounting processes and procedures
- Represent the association, build and maintain its relationship with other organizations in the community including local boards, committees, or groups
- Maintain a strong commitment of the YMCA, its Mission and members
- Other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field strongly preferred, associate’s degree required.
- A minimum of 3-6years of experience in a finance department required, non-profit specific experience preferred.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products
- Understands GAAP and the role it plays in finance
- Basic knowledge of accounting software
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work with diverse population
- Ability to manage self and others
- Excellent relationship building skills
