Job Summary:
We are seeking a motivated 2nd or 3rd Year Electrical Apprentice to join our growing team.The Industrial Electrician Apprentice is responsible for assisting with the installation, maintenance, and testing of electrical systems with a particular focus on R744 refrigeration systems. Typical tasks will include pulling wire back to control and distribution cabinets, reading electrical distribution diagrams and control wire drawings, and working with compliance teams to ensure work is completed to code requirements. The apprentice will work under the supervision of the Journeyman Industrial Electrician. This is a full-time onsite position, however, some travel may be required.
Key Responsibilities:
Installation and Wiring:
Install and wire industrial high voltage equipment according to engineering specifications and industry standards. (208-600 / 3 / 50-60)
Install and wire instruments, and control wiring for control systems (DC and AC)
Pull, route, and terminate wire and cable for electrical systems, ensuring proper connections and grounding.
Assist in the management of blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to plan and execute electrical installations and generate accurate as-built documentation.
Maintenance and Repair:
Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues for industrial equipment
Perform testing on electrical systems to ensure reliability and safety.
Replace faulty wiring, components, and equipment as needed.
Safety and Compliance:
Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment.
Ensure all electrical work complies with provincial/ state and federal electrical codes, as well as company standards.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of electrical installations, repairs, and testing activities.
Report any safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, or potential issues to the Production Manager.
Assist in developing and updating electrical testing procedures and protocols.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with the Journeyman Electrician, Technology department, Controls and Automation, Refrigeration Technicians, and other Production staff to complete system builds.
Provide electrical support to the team as needed.
Communicate effectively with team members and management regarding project status and any challenges encountered.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and safety of electrical systems and installations.
Stay current with industry trends, new technologies, and industry best practices.
Participate in training and development programs to enhance electrical skills and knowledge.
Qualifications and Skills:
High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical or vocational training preferred.
Registered 2nd or 3rd year Electrical Apprentice
2+ years of experience as an electrician in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
Strong knowledge of electrical codes, safety standards, and industry best practices.
Proficient in using electrical testing and diagnostic tools.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying climate conditions.
Requires standing, bending, and working on ladders or elevated platforms for extended periods.
Working Conditions:
Work is typically performed in a manufacturing environment, with exposure to electrical hazards, machinery, and noise.
