JOB SUMMARY
Position manages, directs, and controls the accounting-related activities for several multifamily projects to ensure accurate and timely accounting information is provided to development teams, management, lenders and partners. Directs accounting activities to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), federal and state regulations, and internal business policies. Identifies/resolves complex accounting problems/issues associated with the project(s) while providing expertise and guidance to management. Coordinates with others to accomplish objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Project Accounting – Development
o Prepare and analyze transactions and entries to ensure proper accounting, account classification and recording
o Provide timely and accurate status reports for management, banks and JV partners while conducting complex financial accounting analysis of data to identify trends, unusual variances and deviations that should be brought to management’s attention
o Consult with customers and company management to identify reporting requirements that satisfy their needs/objectives
o Monitor project activities to ensure compliance with contracts, company policies, bank loans and partnership agreements
o Assist project management with the preparation of monthly cash flow models for estimating liquidity, preparing budgets and estimating fair market value
o Prepare construction loan draws and capital calls
o Review and account for cash receipts and disbursements
• Month-End Close
o Lead the month-end close process, including:
- Prepare month-end closing entries, including relevant support
- Coordinate month-end close with third party property managers and JV partners, review financial statements received and consolidate as required
- Prepare account and bank reconciliations, including supporting workpapers
o Document policies and procedures to ensure an efficient and accurate close process
• Accounting Research & Internal Controls
o Notify management of any deviations from policies and/or procedures which may be in violation of the company policy and/or federal and state regulations
o Keep management informed of policies, procedures and other activities which may deter the safeguard of assets
o Research accounting, regulatory, tax and economic issues applicable to the real estate development industry, which requires a thorough technical understanding of the company and the industry
o Audit support - coordinate the preparation and consolidation of sources data, supporting documentation and rationale to external and internal audit personnel
• Accounting Systems
o Remain current in working knowledge of systems and applications
o Remain aware of trends, procedures, technological advancements relative to accounting and project development
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Minimum:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting and 5+ years related experience in real estate environment
• Public accounting experience preferred
• Accounting and Project Controller experience for development projects, especially in a multifamily environment
• Pro-active leader
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Professional demeanor and ability to establish and sustain working relationships
• Ability to multi-task and work on several development projects while meeting month-end deadlines
• Proven background in being flexible, collaborative and willingness to work extra hours when needed
• Technical proficiency in accounting software
Desired:
• CPA license is a plus
• Ability to identify complex accounting issues, research GAAP and propose accounting treatment
• 7+ years related experience in the real estate industry
• Experience with Yardi, Prophix, Concur
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Ability to operate a computer keyboard, phone, calculator and other office equipment with or without accommodations.
• Seeing to read a variety of materials
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to transport 10-25 lbs. (computer, files, etc.)
• Move about the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Ability to work under stressful, fast-paced conditions
