The Associate General Counsel will provide high-level legal guidance across product, commercial, and operational matters in a fast-growing, innovative fintech marketplace. This role partners closely with leadership to manage complex agreements, assess legal risk, and ensure compliance while enabling rapid business growth. You will oversee drafting, negotiation, and review of strategic commercial contracts, advise on regulatory and fintech-specific matters, and support cross-functional teams on major initiatives. This is a hands-on, entrepreneurial position requiring strong judgment, excellent communication, and the ability to navigate ambiguity in a high-speed, high-impact environment. You will play a key role in shaping the legal strategy while collaborating across teams to ensure smooth operations and sustainable growth.
Accountabilities:- Provide expert legal counsel on complex product, commercial, and operational matters.
- Lead drafting, review, and negotiation of strategic commercial agreements, vendor contracts, and marketing partnerships.
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of template agreements governing marketplace operations.
- Advise stakeholders on legal issues, risk management, and business strategy related to fintech products and commercial relationships.
- Manage large-scale projects and go to market launches with long-term goals in mind.
- Identify and drive cross-functional initiatives to support strategic company objectives.
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with teams across legal, product, and operations.
Requirements:
- J.D. or L.L.B. with a license to practice law in the United States or Canada.
- 8+ years of relevant legal experience, ideally combining law firm and in-house technology or fintech experience.
- Proven expertise drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements, including vendor and marketing contracts.
- Experience advising product teams on a broad range of legal issues.
- Strong understanding of fintech, technology, or financial services regulations.
- Exceptional judgment, composure under pressure, and ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including navigating novel or ambiguous legal matters.
- Nice to have: securities law, privacy/data experience, startup or high-growth company experience, venture capital or private equity exposure.
