Role Summary

The Director of Sales is a senior sales leader responsible for driving revenue growth, strengthening gross margin performance, and building a high-performing sales organization. This role provides strategic and hands-on leadership to the sales team, partners closely with marketing and specialist teams, and leads the execution of sales strategies across existing and prospective accounts. The Director of Sales plays a critical role in developing talent, refining the sales process, expanding key product categories, and strengthening customer and partner relationships in highly competitive markets.

Essential Functions
  • Achieve and exceed company revenue and gross margin goals through disciplined execution of sales strategies and performance management.

  • Lead, coach, and develop sales teams, including:

    • Conducting strategic one-on-one meetings with sales representatives at least monthly
    • Supporting prospecting, cold calling, and networking efforts alongside sales personnel
    • Developing, refining, and continuously improving the Innovative Sales Process
  • Provide leadership and oversight for key sales initiatives, including:

    • Managing and preparing RFP and bid responses
    • Leading partnership reviews and strategic account planning
    • Participating in customer implementation meetings
    • Establishing, reviewing, and managing representative activity and performance goals
  • Develop and execute comprehensive sales and marketing plans to drive growth within existing and prospective accounts, with a strong emphasis on specialist-supported product categories such as Managed Print Services (MPS), K–12 Furniture, Facility Supplies, and Print.

  • Personally design, implement, and manage strategic plans that drive revenue growth, improve gross margins, and enhance return on investment.

  • Maximize field engagement by developing and executing plans that prioritize time with sales representatives, with particular focus on new hires and those representing the greatest growth opportunity.

  • Partner closely with sales representatives to regularly review activity, pipeline health, and margin performance, providing actionable coaching and guidance.

  • Coordinate and participate in key sales functions and events, including sales blitzes, open houses, vendor shows, trade shows, and customer events (e.g., MASBO, School Board Show, State of Minnesota and University of Minnesota events, WBE events).

  • Foster a collaborative, results-driven sales culture across the organization.

  • Submit detailed weekly 5:15 reports outlining sales activity, challenges, opportunities, and strategic focus areas.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience
  • 5+ years of senior sales management and marketing leadership experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of office products, furniture lines, key manufacturers, and competitive landscapes
  • Proven ability to recruit, train, coach, and develop a diverse, high-performing sales team
  • Demonstrated success managing complex customer relationships and competing in highly competitive selling environments
  • Strong strategic planning capabilities, with a track record of driving revenue growth, improving gross margins, and managing operating expenses
  • Ability to work independently while thriving in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
