Data Migration Specialist
Location: Remote (USA Only)
Reports To: SEVP of Engineering
Company Overview

NQS partners with hospitals and health systems to modernize legacy registry systems, improve data quality, and streamline compliance and performance reporting across clinical programs.
Position Summary
The Clinical Registry Data Migration Specialist supports the extraction, mapping, transformation, and validation of clinical registry data from legacy platforms into the NQS registry ecosystem. This role plays a critical part in ensuring historical and active registry data is accurately converted to meet national, state, and registry specific standards.
The ideal candidate is detail oriented, comfortable working with structured healthcare data, and familiar with clinical registry concepts and workflows. This role follows established migration processes while contributing to continuous improvement of NQS data migration tooling and methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
Data Intake and Preparation
• Receive and prepare DBF, CSV, Excel, pipe delimited, and legacy export files for processing
• Validate file structure, field presence, and data integrity prior to transformation
• Organize datasets to support mapping, lookup creation, and ETL workflows
Field Mapping and Data Transformation
• Translate legacy registry fields into standardized NQS schemas across Trauma, Burn, Surgery, and related registries
• Assist with building and maintaining mapping tables, picklists, and crosswalks
• Normalize values using established transformation rules including date and time logic, MV and SV handling, and categorical alignment
• Maintain lookup files with strict adherence to formatting requirements including strings, codes, timestamps, and zero padding
ETL Execution and Processing
• Execute internal ETL scripts and migration tools to process client datasets
• Identify and correct formatting issues, missing values, and malformed fields
• Generate JSON and XML payloads for ingestion and validate against NQS schemas
Quality Control and Validation
• Perform source to target comparisons to ensure accuracy and completeness of migrated data
• Validate transformed fields against expected formats, picklists, and clinical logic
• Document discrepancies and participate in remediation and reprocessing cycles
• Support iterative refinement of mappings based on client review and feedback
Client and Internal Collaboration
• Participate in discovery discussions with registry staff to understand legacy workflows and field usage
• Document decisions, exceptions, and special logic in migration artifacts
• Communicate progress, risks, and validation outcomes to the Manager of Clinical Registry Data Integrations and Migrations
• Collaborate with internal product, onboarding, and reporting teams as needed
Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
• Experience working with structured datasets including CSV, Excel, JSON, and XML
• Strong ability to follow detailed transformation rules and mapping logic
• High attention to detail when working with clinical, coded, or regulated data
• Familiarity with trauma, burn, or surgical registry concepts, fields, and workflows
• Comfort with repetitive data cleaning, normalization, and validation tasks
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with XSLT and or Python
Preferred
• Experience with TraumaBase, V5 Collector, ImageTrend, NTRACS, or similar registry platforms
• Exposure to NTDS, TQIP, ITDX, state or regional registry requirements, or Burn and QCDR standards
• Basic SQL or Python for data manipulation
• Experience with API driven workflows or schema validation
