IT Manager
Location: Annapolis, MD (with occasional travel to Towson office and other onsite locations)
Schedule: Monday–Thursday in-office (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM) - Friday work from home
About the Role
We are a growing organization looking for a hands-on IT Manager to join our team and serve as the go-to resource for all things technology. This role is ideal for someone who has previously served as the sole IT person at a company and is comfortable owning the full spectrum of IT responsibilities — from day-to-day support to longer-term infrastructure planning. You will work closely with and report directly to the Director of Operations, and thrive in a fast-paced, startup-oriented environment where you take pride in keeping systems running smoothly. This is a largely independent role, and the right candidate will be self-directed, resourceful, and confident in making decisions without a large IT team behind them.
Key Responsibilities
Help Desk & Ticketing - Serve as the primary point of contact for IT support requests; manage, prioritize, and resolve tickets efficiently - Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues for staff across locations
User Provisioning & Onboarding - Handle provisioning and deprovisioning of user accounts, devices, and access permissions - Ensure new employees are set up and productive from day one - Mobile Device & Telecom Management - Manage the company’s cell phone plan and devices through MetTel - Track usage, coordinate upgrades, and serve as the primary liaison with the MetTel account team - Inventory Control Maintain accurate records of all IT hardware and software assets - Coordinate procurement, deployment, and retirement of equipment - Microsoft 365 Platform Administration - Serve as the organization’s in-house expert and administrator for the full Microsoft 365 suite, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, Intune, and Entra ID (Azure AD) - Manage user accounts, licensing, permissions, and security settings across the M365 tenant - Build and maintain SharePoint sites, Teams workspaces, and OneDrive configurations that support collaboration and document management - Monitor monthly Microsoft 365 feature updates, assess their impact on the organization, and communicate changes proactively to staff - Leverage Power Automate and Power Platform tools to automate workflows and improve operational efficiency - Deliver hands-on training and onboarding to staff on M365 applications; develop quick-reference guides and resources to drive adoption
Content Filtering & Security Management - Administer web filtering, firewall rules, and endpoint security tools - Monitor for threats, apply patches, and ensure compliance with security policies - Reporting - Produce regular IT reports for leadership covering ticket trends, asset status, security posture, and system performance - Office Move & IT Infrastructure Planning - Lead IT planning and execution for office moves, including cabling, network setup, workstation deployment, and vendor coordination
Qualifications
Required - Prior experience as the sole or primary IT person at an organization, demonstrating the ability to independently manage all aspects of IT without a dedicated team - 5+ years of experience in IT support or systems administration - Experience working in a startup or rapidly growing organization strongly preferred - Expert-level proficiency across the Microsoft 365 platform, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, Intune, Entra ID, and Power Automate - Proficiency with helpdesk ticketing systems, user provisioning workflows, and asset management - Familiarity with mobile device management (MDM) and telecom carrier platforms (MetTel experience a plus) - Working knowledge of network infrastructure, content filtering tools, and endpoint security - Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently - Excellent communication skills; comfortable interfacing directly with leadership.
Preferred: Microsoft 365 certification (e.g., MS-102 Administrator Expert, or Teams/Endpoint Administrator Associate) strongly preferred - Experience with AI tools and a demonstrated interest in leveraging AI to improve IT operations or team productivity of AI-related training or certifications; experience planning and executing IT setups for office relocations.
