This role is a critical technical position focused on the stability, performance, and evolution of enterprise Epic database environments supporting clinical and operational healthcare systems. You will be responsible for designing, maintaining, and optimizing complex database infrastructures across production, reporting, training, and disaster recovery environments. Working closely with technical teams and Epic support, you will ensure system reliability, high availability, and efficient data management across all environments. The position requires strong technical depth in Unix systems, database administration, and scripting, combined with a proactive mindset for troubleshooting and performance optimization. You will also contribute to upgrade cycles, capacity planning, and environment strategy while ensuring compliance with best practices. This is a highly collaborative and mission-critical role where your work directly supports healthcare delivery and patient care operations.
- Design, build, and maintain Epic Operational Database (ODB) environments supporting production, reporting, training, disaster recovery, and non-production systems.
- Install, configure, and maintain administrative and monitoring tools to ensure system availability, performance, and reliability.
- Monitor system performance, analyze key metrics, and troubleshoot database and infrastructure issues to ensure optimal operation.
- Manage user access, login behavior, and environment configurations in alignment with security and operational standards.
- Apply Epic and IRIS upgrades and updates across production and non-production environments while ensuring system stability.
- Develop and maintain scripts to automate and improve system administration and operational tasks.
- Participate in change control processes, capacity planning, and business continuity testing to ensure system readiness and resilience.
- Collaborate with Epic vendors and internal technical teams to ensure proactive system support and adherence to best practices.
- Participate in on-call rotation and respond to emergency or after-hours system issues as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Business, or a related field.
- Certification in Operational Database Administration required.
- Strong experience working in Unix environments, including command-line navigation, file management, and system administration.
- Solid understanding of operating system concepts, including permissions, user/group management, and file system configuration.
- Proficiency with shell scripting (Korn, Bourne, POSIX, or C shell) and familiarity with tools such as awk, sed, and Perl.
- Experience managing large-scale database environments and supporting enterprise-level applications, ideally within healthcare or Epic systems.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
- Ability to follow structured processes and maintain operational consistency across critical systems.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with technical and cross-functional teams.
