Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida, Inc. (CCLA) established in 2003 is a Legal Services Corporation (LSC) funded, non-profit organization. CCLA provides free civil legal services to low-income and otherwise eligible residents of Broward County and is located in Plantation, Florida, a suburb of Fort Lauderdale. Our mission is to provide equal justice to underserved communities through quality and innovative free civil legal aid. CCLA provides legal advocacy for individuals in our community, helping thousands of economically disadvantaged residents to gain greater access to justice and much-needed legal assistance to remove barriers to a healthy and stable life.

CCLA provides legal assistance in the areas of Family Law & Victims of Crime, Economic Advocacy & Community Health (public benefits), and Senior Law for people age 60 and older. At CCLA, we provide quality civil legal representation and equal access to justice, regardless of their income. CCLA’s vision is a community where everyone has the legal resources to thrive.

CCLA is currently seeking a full time hardworking, compassionate Paralegal to provide direct legal services to victims of human trafficking, intimate partner violence, and victims of crime who are age 60 and older. Familiar with the law and dynamics of human trafficking, intimate partner violence, domestic violence, elder abuse, and providing trauma-informed services.

Position Duties

  • Assists with case work, such as intake and interviewing clients, discovery, e-filing, calendaring, investigations, communicating with applicants and clients, drafting pleadings, trial preparation, and legal research.
  • Drafting correspondence, legal documents, and communicating with clients.
  • Conducts client intake, interviews, and legal research.
  • Assists clients with applications and forms.
  • Files documents through e-filing portal, copying, and faxing.
  • Represents and advocates for clients in administrative hearings and with agencies.
  • Works closely as part of a team, with numerous attorneys and paralegals.
  • Communicate with clients and outside agencies, in person, on the phone, and via Email.
  • Maintains data and generates reports.
  • Performs community outreach events in-person and virtually, as well as, on social media, and conducts educational training for staff, clients, and community providers, as needed.
  • Maintains records, case notes and daily timekeeping in CCLA’s case management system.
  • Ensures compliance with program and grant requirements.
  • Performs other duties as requested by Management, Supervisors, or as required by grant(s).

Position Requirements

  • 1 to 5 years’ experience working in a legal field preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree, Associate’s degree and/or Paralegal Certificate preferred. Relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of educational requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Pro.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish and/or Creole) preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Must have the ability to multitask, work efficiently and independently.
  • Professional demeanor and client-oriented focus.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest working with people with disabilities, public benefits and/or people with lower socioeconomic status preferred.
