Position Summary
Cleans vacated public housing units to prepare apartment for occupancy. Cleans offices and other assigned rooms/areas. Performs routine litter clearance tasks. Assists building maintenance staff on routine assignments.
Essential Functions
Cleans vacated public housing units to prepare apartment for occupancy: receives assignment; identifies cleaning needs for assigned housing unit; mixes liquids used in house cleaning; cleans and waxes floors: sweeps and mops floor; vacuums floor, operates floor buffer to strip and apply wax to floors; breaks down and cleans kitchen appliances, such as kitchen ranges and refrigerator; cleans housing fixtures, including but not limited to bathroom fixtures (toilets, sinks, wall tile) and kitchen fixtures (counter tops, cabinets, range exhaust hoods); cleans windows, mirrors, and other glass surfaces; cleans doors, walls, molding, frames, and other surfaces; collects, removes, and disposes of refuse taken from unit; ensures unit is secure and locked prior to leaving; refers maintenance problems to the attention of the immediate manager; and reports to immediate manager that unit is ready for inspections.
Cleans units damaged by fire or other causes: receives assignment; washes and cleans the walls, ceilings, floors, and windows of damaged units as directed; collects, removes, and disposes of refuse taken from unit; ensures unit is secure and locked prior to leaving; and identifies and refers maintenance problems to the attention of the immediate manager.
Cleans offices and other assigned areas: receives assignment; identifies cleaning needs for assigned housing unit; mixes liquids used in cleaning; cleans and waxes floors: sweeps and mops floor; vacuums floor, operates floor buffer to strip and apply wax to floors; breaks down and cleans kitchen appliances, such as kitchen ranges and refrigerator; cleans housing fixtures, including but not limited to bathroom fixtures (toilets, sinks, wall tile) and kitchen fixtures (counter tops, cabinets, range exhaust hoods); cleans windows, mirrors, and other glass surfaces; cleans doors, walls, molding, frames, and other surfaces; collects, removes, and disposes of refuse; ensures office or other assigned area is secure and locked prior to leaving; and refers maintenance problems to the attention of the immediate manager.
Performs routine litter clearance tasks as assigned: removes litter from grounds, sidewalks, and streets as directed.
Assists building maintenance staff on routine assignments, including but not limited to assisting in collecting and disposing of refuse following a maintenance assignment, and applying paint for touch-up painting assignments.
Performs other related work as required.
Performance Standards
- Efficient Cleaning - Completes assigned cleanings on time; ensures all surfaces are cleaned to move-in standards.
- Unit Readiness - Secures unit after cleaning; promptly reports maintenance issues and unit status.
- Specialty Cleaning - Cleans fire-damaged units and offices per instructions; safely disposes of debris.
- Grounds Maintenance - Removes litter from assigned outdoor areas as directed.
- Maintenance Support - Assists with light maintenance tasks, including cleanup and basic painting.
- Safety & Equipment Use - Uses chemicals and tools properly; follows all safety protocols.
- Teamwork & Communication - Works cooperatively; follows instructions; communicates effectively.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certification.
Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience necessary to obtain the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirements
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Subject to a background check and reference verification prior to hire.
- Must maintain confidentiality and adhere to NRHA’s code of conduct and ethics policies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Operational knowledge of cleaning techniques, including mixing of cleaning chemicals, sanitation of bathrooms, break down of ranges and refrigerators, stripping floors, and other routine cleaning work.
- Operational knowledge of use of common house cleaning tools, such as mop, vacuum, buffer, and other tools.
- Operational knowledge of safe work practices; including knowledge of safe handling of cleaning chemicals, tool handling, and cleaning practices.
- Basic oral and written communication skills to receive oral and written work directions.
- Basic human relations skills, with emphasis on working in team environment; must be able to work cooperatively to complete work assignments, and must be willing to rotate work assignments with other team members.
- Ability to follow non-complex oral and written instructions.
- Ability to receive training in manual or physical tasks.
- Ability to exercise limited independent judgment in the performance or routine cleaning activities.
- Ability to exercise limited independent initiative in the performance or routine cleaning activities.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, see, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Drug Free Workplace: NRHA maintains a drug free workplace.VRS Contribution: All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
