About This Position

ASSISTANT CONTROLLER

REPORTS TO: Controller

HOURS: Full-time

CLASSIFICATION: Salary – Exempt

REQUISTION NUMBER: 1762

SUMMARY: The Assistant Controller is a member of the Accounting and Support (A&S) Department, which is responsible for the overall financial operations, and financial presentation of the Organization. This is a highly visible position, interfacing with multiple senior department heads involving the technical reporting and operational accounting needs of the Organization.

This position plays a pivotal role in providing prudent fiscal controls throughout the organization as well as ensuring that accounting functions are performing as needed and required. This position reports directly to the Controller.

This is a highly visible position which interfaces with various departmental leadership.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support in leading the organization’s daily accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Assist with the monthly and annual financial closing process including timely journal entry reconciliation and financial statement preparation.
  • Ensure adherence with regulatory standards including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Uniform Administrative Requirements (2 CFR Part 200).
  • Assist in overseeing outsourced third-party accounting team.
  • Support the annual budgeting process.
  • Coordinate with other departments to improve cost allocation methodology and analyze allowable cost trends and assist with needed adjustments.
  • Assist with timely submission of various audits and oversight review processes.
  • Lead efforts to streamline financial workflows, automate reporting, and implement new tools to improve efficiency.
  • Collaborate with other departments ensuring alignment with financial operations with broader organizational goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or 5 years of similar work experience
  • Previous nonprofit experience.
  • Intacct, Bill.com, Ramp and the Microsoft Office Suite and Office 365.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent accounting skills and financial analysis
  • Strong initiative, self-motivation, and work ethic
  • Desire to collaborate with other departments and colleagues

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers; handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk; and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, balance, stoop, kneel, and/or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Keyboard data entry required.
