Reports to: S Shop Foreman
Position Overview
The Diesel Truck Technician II is a mid‑level technician responsible for performing intermediate
repairs, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance on diesel-powered trucks and related fleet
equipment. This role requires solid technical competency, the ability to work independently on most
repairs, and the capability to assist lower-level technicians with training and troubleshooting.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Diagnostics & Repair
• Perform intermediate-level diagnosis and repair of mechanical, electrical, and emission[1]related issues.
• Troubleshoot and repair:
o Diesel engines
o Aftertreatment systems (DPF, DOC, SCR)
o Electrical and charging systems
o Cooling systems
o Brake and air systems
o Suspension and steering components
• Use diagnostic tools and OEM software to identify root-cause issues.
• Perform component replacements, adjustments, and calibrations as required.
Preventative Maintenance & Inspections
• Perform and sign off on PM A/B/C services.
• Conduct DOT-level inspections and ensure equipment meets regulatory compliance.
• Identify and document potential failures or safety hazards during PMs.
Documentation & Reporting
• Accurately document all work orders, labor hours, parts used, and diagnostic findings.
• Maintain clear communication with supervisors regarding equipment status.
• Provide repair recommendations and improvement suggestions for recurring issues.
Safety & Shop Standards
• Follow all company safety programs and PPE requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
• Properly use shop equipment, lifts, and specialty tools.
Team Support & Leadership
• Assist Diesel Technician I personnel with troubleshooting and hands-on training.
• Provide guidance on proper repair procedures and shop best practices.
• Support overall shop efficiency and workflow.
Skills and Requirements
Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED.
• 2–4 years of experience as a diesel or automotive technician.
• Proficiency with diagnostic tools and repair procedures.
• Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
• Completion of a diesel or automotive technical program.
• OEM training (e.g., Cummins, Detroit, PACCAR, Navistar) is highly desirable.
• ASE Medium/Heavy Truck certifications (T-Series).
• Demonstrated ability to train or mentor junior technicians.
• CDL Class A or B
Work Environment
• Shop setting with exposure to noise, fumes, moving vehicles, and heavy machinery.
• Requires physical activity including standing, kneeling, climbing, and lifting.
• May require occasional outdoor work depending on facility setup.
Salary
Pay Range: $28.00-$36.00 per hour, depending on experience, certifications, and shift assignment.
Second shift -Current hours: 11:00–19:30
