Location: Ashland, VA
Job Type: Direct Hire | Full-Time | Onsite
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (1-hour lunch)
Compensation: Up to $100,000 annually, based on experience
Additional Pay: Performance-based increases and bonus opportunities
We are seeking an experienced Structural Estimator / CAD Operator to join a growing structural steel organization. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong estimating expertise and hands-on CAD experience within the structural steel industry.
Position Overview
The Structural Estimator / CAD Operator will be responsible for preparing accurate project estimates, reviewing structural steel drawings, and supporting design and modeling efforts. This role requires the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare detailed estimates for structural steel projects, including material costs, labor hours, manpower, timelines, and profit margins
- Review and interpret structural steel blueprints and shop drawings
- Perform CAD work and 3D modeling related to structural steel projects
- Collaborate with internal teams to support project planning and execution
- Maintain accurate documentation and records throughout the estimating process
- Support local site visits as needed using a company-provided vehicle
- 5–7 years of experience as a Structural Steel Estimator (required)
- Strong CAD proficiency with a focus on structural steel applications
- Experience with AutoCAD and 3D modeling software (Autodesk Inventor preferred)
- Advanced knowledge of structural steel detailing and construction methods
- Proven ability to read and interpret structural steel blueprints
- Strong computer skills with comfort handling extensive documentation
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Fabrication experience
- Combined estimating and CAD operating background
- Successful completion of a 5-panel drug screening
- Local travel required (company vehicle provided for business use)
