Structural Estimator / CAD Operator

Job Title: Structural Estimator / CAD Operator
Location: Ashland, VA
Job Type: Direct Hire | Full-Time | Onsite
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (1-hour lunch)
Compensation: Up to $100,000 annually, based on experience
Additional Pay: Performance-based increases and bonus opportunities

We are seeking an experienced Structural Estimator / CAD Operator to join a growing structural steel organization. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong estimating expertise and hands-on CAD experience within the structural steel industry.

Position Overview

The Structural Estimator / CAD Operator will be responsible for preparing accurate project estimates, reviewing structural steel drawings, and supporting design and modeling efforts. This role requires the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed estimates for structural steel projects, including material costs, labor hours, manpower, timelines, and profit margins
  • Review and interpret structural steel blueprints and shop drawings
  • Perform CAD work and 3D modeling related to structural steel projects
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support project planning and execution
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records throughout the estimating process
  • Support local site visits as needed using a company-provided vehicle
Qualifications
  • 5–7 years of experience as a Structural Steel Estimator (required)
  • Strong CAD proficiency with a focus on structural steel applications
  • Experience with AutoCAD and 3D modeling software (Autodesk Inventor preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of structural steel detailing and construction methods
  • Proven ability to read and interpret structural steel blueprints
  • Strong computer skills with comfort handling extensive documentation
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Preferred Experience
  • Fabrication experience
  • Combined estimating and CAD operating background
Additional Requirements
  • Successful completion of a 5-panel drug screening
  • Local travel required (company vehicle provided for business use)
