About This Position

Description:

Staples Construction is seeking a full-time driver with a Class A license to join our team! You will be responsible for safely operating a truck with a capacity of at least 50,000 pounds of combined Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW). The Staples Construction Driver will operate the company provided dump truck, tag equipment trailer, and other various vehicles in a safe manner. This position requires an active California Class A Drivers License. The Driver will work with others to support various divisions of the organization. TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Safely drive truck to and from destination applying knowledge of DOT driving regulations and area roads.
  • Check loads to ensure product is being hauled in an appropriate and safe manner to adjust to desired level.
  • Develop extensive working relationships with customers, both external and internal, in order to maximize opportunities for Staples Construction and to ensure customer needs are addressed.
  • Keep equipment in acceptable condition of cleanliness using approved cleaning materials and supplies.
  • Maintain personal appearance in neat and clean manner.
  • Maintain contact with supervisor/dispatch to receive and transmit delivery instructions.
  • Complete pre- and post-trip inspections on truck equipment and supplies, such as tires, lights brakes, gas, oil, and water; may perform roadside repairs; must report any issues to management.
  • Maintain good working knowledge of the commercial traffic routes.
  • Must be able to take orders, instructions, and guidance from supervisors and management.
  • Cooperate and promote a team concept with all other company employees, as well as all Staples Construction’s customers.
  • Adhere to all Staples Construction, D.O.T., and O.S.H.A. rules and regulations at all times.
  • Perform all job duties in accordance with our safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management.
  • Operate a delivery vehicle to/from construction sites.
  • Attends all staff meetings, trainings, and educational classes as required.
  • Ensures that required documentation is complete and is in compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Maintains truck logs and/or time recordings as required by state, federal, and company policies and regulations.
Requirements:

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

  • California State Law for Class A CDL drivers.
  • Valid commercial California Driver’s License and medical DOT card.
  • Have a clean driver record/MVR; No DUI’s or DWI’s in the last 5 years, no more than 3 moving violations in the previous 3 years.
  • Ability to follow written and/or oral instructions in the business language (English).
  • Enroll in the CA DMV EPN program.
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations policies and/or procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE INCLUDE:

  • 5 years minimum experience of commercial driving experience

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise, and working outdoors.
  • Must wear protective equipment while at the location.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree.
  • Heavy Work-Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally (pushing, pulling, and caring), and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors as well as function safely around heavy rolling equipment.
  • Must be able to climb onto equipment regularly; must bend/twist to tie down equipment with harnesses/chains.
  • Must pass DOT physical to include back x-ray, hearing test and drug/alcohol screen.
