SEACORP is seeking a well-qualified RAN Combat Control Systems Engineer III.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Job Summary: SEACORP is seeking a Systems Engineer for the NUWC BYG-1 Royal Australian Navy team in Newport, RI. A Systems Engineer, also known as lead systems analyst, a network engineer who can also program, or a software engineer who can also manage networks, is an IT professional who oversees the creation of hybrid software, web and hardware products from initial specifications to final rollout and maintenance. These products are often sophisticated systems that run on the web. The systems engineer is responsible to integrate various network operating systems, application programs and hardware devices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinating and scheduling of all events in the RAN BYG-1 Combat Systems laboratory at NUWC.
- Interface and maintain professional relationships with customers and representatives of multiple countries and other companies.
- Coordinate hardware and software configurations across multiple test bays.
- Perform media creation and logging of delivered software.
- Investigate and provide impact statements and workarounds to the Royal Australian Navy for identified system failures and Problem Trouble Reports (PTRs).
- Perform the duties and responsibilities of Test Director for formal testing events.
- Perform the role of a BYG-1 system operator critical functional assessments and test events
- Review and comment on system documentation and requirements.
- Perform verification of bug fixes and problem resolutions.
Qualifications:
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field is required. Advanced submarine technical training (e.g. Navy “A” or “C” School) and a minimum of 5 years of Submarine Combat Control Weapon System experience can be substituted for a Bachelor’s Degree.
Experience: 5+ years of test and integration experience on submarine combat systems. Working knowledge of AN/BYG-1 & Weapons Launch Consoles is required. Navy experience as a Fire Control Technician (FT) or similar rating is desired.
Ideal Skills and Experience:
- Experience with the BYG-1 (V)8 variant for the Royal Australian Navy.
- Experience with Linux Operating systems.
- Experience with working on teams in a geographically dispersed and virtual environment.
- Familiarity with Linux command line.
- Familiarity with computer system and switch architecture.
- Ability to work independently and in a team dynamic with a self-starter mindset.
- Ability to conduct troubleshooting and testing with procedures.
- Ability to support domestic and international travel as required.
- Excellent communications skills and ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Critical thinker with a continuous learning mindset.
- Ability to work effectively with engineers of varying disciplines.
Must be able to obtain and hold a DoD Secret level clearance.

Work Environment & Physical Demands: Office & Computer Laboratories - Sitting, standing, extended periods of time using a mouse and keyboard and viewing computer screens. Infrequent lifting of <40lbs. Movement between points within the same office or between buildings. Work is performed in generally consistent environmental conditions with some seasonality for temperature differences and lighting.
