Position Summary:
The Lab Assistant will support daily operations in the laboratory, with a primary focus on labeling and preparing specimens for processing. The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a background in phlebotomy, clinical lab, or medical assisting.
Key Responsibilities
Perform specimen intake procedures correctly and within acceptable time frames
Accurately label and organize patient specimens for lab processing
Maintain proper documentation and labeling protocols to ensure specimen integrity
Locate samples for additional testing as needed
Answer calls and messages promptly
Participates in detecting and documenting occurrences that deviate from defined procedures.
Support lab staff with basic tasks including restocking supplies, cleaning workstations, and preparing materials
Follow safety procedures and infection control guidelines at all times
Provide additional administrative or clinical support as directed by lab personnel or management
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) certification or relevant clinical/lab experience
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
Ability to follow strict protocols and prioritize tasks appropriately
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Comfortable working in a clinical/laboratory environment
Preferred Skills
Experience working with specimens or in a lab setting
Familiarity with EMR systems and lab software, eClinicalWorks, LabTrak, LabDaq
Knowledge of HIPAA and OSHA guidelines
