About This Position

Position Overview

Apex Skin is a physician-led, rapidly growing dermatology practice dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care and experiences. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Medical Assistant to join our team in a multi-site float role. This position will primarily support one home office while traveling to other locations as needed to ensure smooth clinical operations. In this role, you will assist providers with both clinical and administrative responsibilities, including rooming patients, assisting with dermatologic procedures, documenting in the EMR as a clinical scribe, educating patients, and performing front office tasks as needed. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong communication skills, clinical accuracy, attention to detail, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Schedule

  • Full-time, Monday through Friday [40 hours per week]
  • Work Arrangement: Home location, Madison Office*
  • Monday – Ashtabula | Tuesday – Off | Wednesday – Mentor | Thursday – Concord/ Madison (location based on clinical needs) | Friday – Ashtabula
  • *Travel Reimbursement: A travel reimbursement or stipend may be considered for candidates who travel more than 20 miles from one office to another.

Essential Functions

  • Escort patients to exam rooms, obtain vital signs, collect short histories, and update medication lists for multiple providers across different locations
  • Prepare exam rooms based on scheduled procedures and anticipate provider needs in a multi-site environment
  • Assist providers with biopsies, excisions, surgical procedures, and other dermatologic treatments
  • Scribe for providers during patient visits, accurately documenting clinical notes, treatments, diagnoses, and patient instructions directly into the EMR in real time
  • Maintain and update patient records, charts, and EMR documentation to meet compliance standards across all supported offices
  • Educate patients regarding provider instructions, treatment plans, post-procedure care, and medication usage
  • Monitor and complete lab documentation, biopsy/culture logs, telephone encounters, and task queues in the EMR
  • Handle clinical phone calls, follow up on biopsy results, and communicate with patients under provider direction
  • Perform autoclave procedures, maintain sterility standards, and complete quality control checks
  • Complete assigned administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, scanning documents, answering phones, and processing prior authorizations
  • Travel to multiple Apex Skin locations as needed to support clinical operations and ensure continuity of care for providers and patients
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability when working with different providers and clinical teams in varying office environments


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting (dermatology experience preferred)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with multiple providers and teams
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to different office environments and maintain professionalism in a fast-paced, multi-site role
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage time efficiently
  • Customer service mindset with a focus on patient care and quality
  • Proficiency in basic computer software, EMR documentation, and medical terminology
  • Active CMA, RMA, or Medical Assistant certification preferred, or willingness to obtain certification

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting during patient care and administrative tasks
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, instrument preparation, and documentation
  • Ability to speak and hear clearly when interacting with patients and team members
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read medical documentation, EMR screens, and clinical notes
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds (clinical materials, supplies, or files)
  • Work is performed in a professional clinical office environment with regular patient interaction and collaboration with providers and clinical staff
  • Requires consistent attention to detail and calm communication during patient visits or scheduling needs
  • May encounter urgent or time-sensitive patient situations requiring composure and sound judgment
  • Required to adhere to HIPAA, OSHA, and Apex Skin privacy and safety standards
