Job Summary:
Kovitz Shifrin Nesbit is growing! A well-established and leading real estate tax firm focusing on the appeal of single-family homes and homeowner associations is seeking a full-time Legal Assistant for our Chicago, IL office. Must have strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Must be comfortable working independently yet be a team player. Must be able to efficiently manage multiple projects and exercise good judgment in dealing with highly confidential matters.
The starting salary/hourly rate for this position is $31.32, contingent up level of experience. The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with flexibility for overtime, and it follows a 35-hour workweek. The position requires a minimum of 60 days of in-office training. After successfully completing this period, the role will transition to a hybrid schedule. The schedule will be determined by the manager once training is completed. The requirement will be discussed more during the interview process.

Duties/Responsibilities:
· Open new client matters, reopen existing matters as needed, and ensure accurate setup within the tax department database.
· Prepare and organize client appeal folders for submission to the Cook County Assessor’s Office and the Cook County Board of Review.
· Compile, merge, and distribute Condominium Appeal Proposal Packages to clients.
· Prepare and process Attorney Authorization Forms, ensuring all required information is completed prior to filing.
· Draft, transcribe, edit, and file departmental correspondence and related tax appeal documents.
· Review returned appeal materials for accuracy, completeness, and required signatures.
· Index, upload, and maintain appeal documents and supporting materials within the firm’s document management system (iManage).
· Accurately enter, track, and manage data within tax systems, software applications, and internal databases.
· File Residential Condominium Tax Appeals with the Cook County Assessor’s Office and Cook County Board of Review in accordance with deadlines.
· Draft and respond to email and telephone correspondence related to tax appeals and client inquiries.
· Research property records through Illinois agencies and prepare Take Notice Letters as required.
· Provide administrative and clerical support to tax department attorneys and paralegals.
· Assist with special projects, departmental initiatives, and other duties as assigned.
Requirements:Required Skills/Abilities:
· 2-4 years of law firm/legal experience, required.
· 2+ years of administrative Real Estate Tax experience, preferred.
· Knowledge of Cook County Recorder of Deeds and the Cook County Assessor websites.
· General computer skills with experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Access, Adobe Acrobat.
· iManage experience a plus!
· Ability to learn specialized software of the firm.
· Must be able to type greater than 50 wpm with greater than 90% accuracy.
· Strong organizational skills with an ability to multi-task.
· Excels working in a team environment, with ability to work independently.
· Attention to detail.
