Job Summary
The Events and Outreach Assistant supports the Director in developing and implementing culturally grounded outreach, engagement, events, and research distribution services for American Indian and Alaska Native community members. This position plays a key role in strengthening the organization’s visibility, partnerships, and community presence through coordinated events, outreach activities, and community engagement efforts. The Events and Outreach Assistant assists with planning and supporting community events, resource drives, and partnership communications; coordinating volunteers; and providing additional support for The People’s Store.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with planning, coordinating, and executing community events, workshops, and outreach activities.
- Help develop and distribute promotional materials.
- Set up, staff, and break down events spaces, including tables, signage, supplies etc.
- Track event attendance, collect feedback, and maintain accurate records of community engagement activities.
- Assist with outreach strategies to increase awareness of UAII programs, services, and resources.
- Assist with intake, sorting, and organization of donations.
- Support donation drives, community campaigns, and collaborative events.
- Help identify community needs and emerging trends to inform program development.
- Operate a company vehicle.
- Support the director with scheduling, logistics, communications and documentation for outreach initiatives.
- Adhere to organizational policies, procedures and mission and represents UAII positively in the community.
- Perform light physical labor, including bending, lifting, carrying, and moving items up to 40lbs.
- Assist with volunteer coordination, including onboarding, scheduling, and training support.
- Assist in building and maintaining partnerships with Tribal programs, nonprofits, schools, and service providers.
- Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, attendance, and resource distribution.
- Prepare reports, summaries, and data for internal use and further requirements.
- Works collegially with the director and The People’s Store Manager to achieve program standards and the missions and philosophy set by the organization.
- Demonstrates cultural competency and respect for the clients/ visitors' backgrounds.
- Maintain ongoing communication with the Director.
- Directly interacts with volunteers, clients/ visitors in a warm and positive way.
- Be familiar with emergency procedures and protocol and implement emergency procedures as required.
- Participate in all required meetings and training courses.
- Sets a good standard and work ethic that the volunteers can proudly follow.
- In accordance with agency philosophy, may occasionally be required to carry out or assist with other tasks in addition to the duties listed in this job description.
- Ability to work some weekends and evenings.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- First aid and CPR certified
- Mandated Reporter training (elder and child abuse) annually.
- A combination of experience, education, and training may substitute for degree requirements on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience)
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience working with the American Indian/Alaskan Native community.
- Experience working with nonprofit organizations, community groups, and performance-based government contracts.
- One (1) year of experience in community outreach, social services, event coordination, or related fields.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (PL93-638).
- Knowledge of Title V of the Indian Health Care Improvement Act (PL 94-437).
- Knowledge of the Affordable Care Act (PL 111-148).
- Strong understanding and sensitivity to American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) cultures and lifestyles and work effectively with AI/AN population.
- Effective oral and written communications skills with sensitivity to lifestyles of targeted participants, while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
- Demonstrate professional skills, with a positive attitude, efficient, and energetic, with a team building approach.
- Skills in operating a personal computer using a variety of computer software (Microsoft Office, Adobe, Microsoft Teams, Zoom).
- Ability to work with families from all socio-economic levels.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of client and personnel information, exercise discretion, and comply with all applicable federal and state privacy laws, as well as UAII policy (HIPAA, HITECH, etc.).
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with management, coworkers, and outside contacts.
- Ability to organize events, manage logistics, and support community engagement activities.
- Ability to keep up with a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to anticipate issues and find solutions quickly and effectively.
- Ability to learn and apply program/agency operating policies and procedures.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.
- Ability to interact with various people on various, and at times, complex issues.
- Ability to work independently as well as with teams.

Working Conditions
The work environment characteristics described here represent those employee encounters while performing the primary functions of this job.
This is a fully on-site position with occasional field work as needed, and the successful applicant will be expected to work on-site daily.
Normal office conditions exist, and the noise level in the work environment can vary from low to moderate. Because of occupational exposure to aerosol transmissible diseases, employees are strongly encouraged to receive annual influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations to not only protect their health, but also the health of our colleagues and the community. In the absence of the recommended vaccinations, employees are advised to wear a mask at all times while in the clinic areas as a precautionary measure to help prevent the spread of illnesses.
