Technical Editor - Job Description

Position Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Technical Editor to join our team in providing critical support to Department of the Navy (DoN) customers. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office products. Prior experience with desktop publishing and database management is also essential. This individual will compile relevant technical information, collaboratively refine technical documents, and ensure all deliverables meet professional standards and government presentation requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Compile, review, edit, and format technical documentation, reports, and presentations to ensure accuracy and clarity.
  • Analyze technical literature and verify documentation with appropriate sources.
  • Collaborate with government customers to gather, organize, and refine technical information.
  • Coordinate with government personnel to schedule and prepare time-sensitive briefings with Navy activities. Monitor assignment schedules on a regular basis.
  • Maintain attention to detail in grammar, spelling, syntax, and adherence to style guides.
  • Edit routine deliverables, including monthly status reports, presentations, and technical documents.
  • Use desktop publishing tools for documentation design, development, and formatting.
  • Facilitate secure data transfers as a Media Transfer Agent (MTA) and manage deliverable log, document inventory and databases for Navy customers.
  • Ensure deliverables meet specified deadlines and meet security requirements.


Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and desktop publishing tools.
  • Proven technical editing and document management experience in a professional setting.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with team members and SMEs.
  • Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.


Desired Skills and Qualifications:
  • Experience with Department of Navy (DoN) projects or government contracts.
  • Familiarity with Navy-specific style guides and document formatting requirements.
  • Proficiency in Navy IT systems.
  • Advanced formatting experience, such as Adobe Creative Suite expertise or similar tools.
  • Adaptability and ability to thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments.


Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • 5-8 years of experience in technical editing, preferably for DoN or government contracts.


Security Clearance Requirements:
  • Secret clearance required (TS clearance preferred).
  • US Citizenship Required

The likely salary range for this position is $81,349 - $109,250. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
