About This Position

Please note: This will be a paid internship and you must be located in the Richmond, VA area. This will require a hybrid schedule (in-office 3 days per week). The Summer Internship will run from 6/1 - 8/7 or 8/14 (depending on intern school schedules).

KORE is seeking an eUICC Testing Engineer Intern to support cellular Internet of Things (IoT) device certification and testing initiatives across global carrier ecosystems. This role sits at the intersection of IoT engineering, telecom certification, and lab operations, with direct exposure to eSIM (eUICC) technologies and real-world carrier certification workflows.

You will work alongside the Co-Chair of the PTCRB IoT Working Group who is responsible for defining PTCRB certification requirements for IoT devices as well as certification engineers, product teams, and external laboratories to execute testing, manage certification artifacts, and support device approvals across global carrier networks such as Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and others throughout the world.

This is a hands-on, execution-heavy role, not theoretical. Expect to engage in both technical testing and process orchestration, reflecting how certification operates in production environments

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES
Core Responsibilities

1. Certification Testing Execution

  • SupporteUICC(GSMASGP.02, SGP.32) and M2M certification testing for IoT devices
  • Execute functional test cases including:
  • Remote SIM Provisioning (RSP) validation
  • OTA / FOTA validation
  • Network performance test scenarios
  • Assistin capturing and analyzing logs (e.g.,Compriontools, carrier logs)
  • Validate device behavior against certification requirements prior to submission

2. Certification Project Coordination

  • Assistin managing end-to-end certification workflows
  • Track certification progress across:
  • PTCRB submissions
  • Carrier-specific certification (e.g., Verizon Fast Track)
  • Support internal coordination between:
  • Engineering
  • Product
  • Customers / OEM Manufacturers
  • External labs

3. Documentation & Compliance

  • Prepare andmaintaincertification artifacts, including:
  • Device compliance matrices
  • Test reports and logs
  • Carrier submission documentation
  • Reuse and adapt prior certification artifacts to accelerate approvals
  • Ensure alignment with:
  • GSMA / CTIA(PTCRB)industrystandards
  • FCC /GovernmentRegulatoryrequirements
  • Carrier-specific compliance (e.g., Verizon IoT security, FOTA)

4. Lab & Carrier Liaison Support

  • Coordinate with third-party labs (e.g., SGS) for test execution
  • Assistin communication with carrier certification teams
  • Support troubleshooting during certification cycles
  • Help interpret test results and feedback loops with carriers

5. Process Improvement & Knowledge Capture

  • Document certification workflows and testing procedures
  • Identifyopportunities to:
  • Reduce certification cycle time
  • Standardizeddocumentation reuse
  • Improve internal testing readiness
  • Contribute to KORE’s internal certification knowledge base

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the internship, you will learn:

  • Real-world IoT device certification lifecycle
  • Deep exposure to:
  • eUICC(eSIM) architecture and SGP.02/ SGP.32
  • Carrier certification frameworks (Verizon, PTCRB)
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • Telecom testing tools (e.g.,Comprion)
  • OTA provisioning workflows
  • How certification impacts revenue timing, deployment risk, and customer delivery

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Pursuing a degree inElectrical Engineering
  • Basic understanding of:
  • Cellular networks (LTE/5G, IoT connectivity)
  • Networking fundamentals
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage structured processes
  • Comfortable working in a lab + documentation-heavy environment
  • Exposure to:
  • SIM /eSIMtechnologies
  • IoT devices or embedded systems
  • Familiarity with:
  • Testing tools or log analysis
  • Telecom standards (3GPP, GSMA)
  • Prior internship or lab experience

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

  • Structured thinker who can handlecomplex processes
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and long certification cycles
  • Strong follow-through. Certification fails when details are missed
