The Franciscan Renewal Center (FRC) is a nonprofit Catholic retreat center and home to Our Lady of the Angels Church, located on 25 acres in Paradise Valley. Founded in 1951 by the Order of Friars Minor (OFM), with a mission of “renewing lives through spiritual growth, healing and transformation, and service to others.”
We serve our mission by providing:
• Retreats, meeting and conference space for faith-based and nonprofit organizations
• Joyful worship at Our Lady of the Angels Church and additional support to our dynamic faith community with faith formation and spiritual education
• Service and outreach programs for the poor and vulnerable
• Counseling, therapy, and support groups
The Franciscan Renewal Center in Paradise Valley, AZ is looking for a dedicated Prep Cook who is passionate about building relationships and community through food. If you have a service mindset, take pride in your work, have an eye for detail, and can consistently follow recipes with precision, you’ll fit right in here.
In this role, you’ll prepare ingredients, follow our proven recipes and preparation methods and help create delicious meals that are served timely and make our guests feel welcome and cared for.
To work in a clean, organized kitchen where teamwork, quality, and consistency matter - You’ll need to bring your strong knowledge and proficiency with food preparation and be able to stay organized no matter what is going on, multitask like a champ and work with speed, accuracy and skill, while maintaining health and safety requirements.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
• Create meals and snacks according to FRC recipes, and provide beverages while maintaining guest service focus and meeting health department regulations
• Prepare ingredients including mix, wash, peel, chop, grind, strain, slice meat and vegetables
• Cook a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables and other food items for cooking in broilers, ovens, grills, fryers and a variety of other kitchen equipment.
• Ensure the kitchen and dining area are clean and sanitary
• Stay focused and organized, even in a busy environment with interruptions
• Be a continuous learner by being open to new ideas and instruction to elevate skills
• Show a commitment to delivering excellent guest service
• Foster positive relationships with co-workers and dedication to working as a team towards one goal
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
• High school diploma or equivalent desired
• 1 or more years’ experience preferred
• Valid Maricopa County Food Handler Card, or the ability to acquire one by start date
• Familiarity with a variety cooking methods and Health Department regulations
• Ability to prepare food items and meals timely and effectively according to FRC recipes and methods while ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations
• Capable of lifting fifty pounds or more
• Capable of standing for extended periods of time, up to full duration of shift
• Must be able to work in kitchen environment with varying conditions including heat exposure, steam and moderate to high noise levels
• Ability to work effectively independently as well as part of a team
• Full-time position, must be punctual and dependable for scheduled shifts
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet business needs, including days, evenings, weekends and some holidays.
