About This Position
Moffitt Cancer Center is seeking to recruit a Senior Member and Director of Nanomaterials for a senior leadership role within the Bioengineering Department. This position is responsible for driving transformative research and innovation at the intersection of biomedical science, technology, and patient care.
We are looking for a visionary leader with extensive expertise in nanoscience and its applications in bioengineering. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in managing complex research projects, mentoring teams, and successfully navigating the pathway from bench research to clinical applications.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Mastery in polymer synthesis (e.g., ROMP, RAFT), nanotechnology, drug delivery, and biomedical systems.
- Knowledge of cancer biology, synthetic biology, and regulatory science.
- Familiarity with advanced material characterization methods (e.g., liquid-phase TEM).
- Strategic planning, team building, and project management skills (PMP certification desirable).
- Strong communication skills for publishing, presenting, and stakeholder engagement.
- Experience managing IP portfolios, patent applications, and commercialization strategies.
- Collaborative leadership style with an emphasis on inclusive, cross-disciplinary engagement.
- Experience leading large interdisciplinary research centers or consortia.
- Expertise in biomaterials, nanotechnology, polymer science, protein-mimetic polymers, synthetic melanin, and advanced nanomaterials characterization.
- Excellence in mentoring postdocs, graduate students, and junior faculty.
- Experience with technology transfer, regulatory frameworks (e.g., FDA 510(k)), and industry-academic collaboration.
Responsibilities:
- Manage budgets, resource allocation, and performance metrics for nanotechnology programs.
- Mentor junior researchers and foster a culture of innovation, emphasizing interdisciplinary problem-solving and data-driven decision-making.
Credentials and Qualifications:
- MD or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a closely related field.
- Ten (10) years of postdoctoral and/or faculty research experience in applied chemical engineering or bioengineering, with a focus on biomedical applications, inclusive of five (5) years in a senior leadership role.
- Demonstrated success in managing large-scale research projects and securing significant extramural funding (e.g., NIH, NSF, DoD) totaling at least $10M. Strong record of high-impact publications and scholarly achievement.
Academic rank beyond Assistant Member will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position is tenure-earning. Salary and start-up funds are highly competitive.
