The Chief Operating Officer - Payments will serve as a strategic partner to the CEO, driving operational excellence and scaling the business within complex payments and fintech ecosystems. This role oversees cross-functional operations, financial management, and product execution, while optimizing merchant workflows and payment infrastructure. You will lead teams, implement robust operational processes, and leverage AI-driven solutions to enhance efficiency and reliability. The position demands a combination of strategic vision, hands-on operational expertise, and deep understanding of payments, compliance, and SaaS business dynamics. By shaping workflows, improving KPIs, and fostering a high-performance culture, you will have a direct impact on growth, merchant satisfaction, and long-term company success.

Accountabilities
  • Partner with the CEO to translate strategic vision into operational plans, with emphasis on payments, checkout optimization, and merchant growth.
  • Oversee daily operations across departments, ensuring alignment with company objectives and fintech compliance standards.
  • Implement operational processes, KPIs, and cost management initiatives to maximize efficiency, reliability, and profitability.
  • Lead strategic projects, including payment method expansions, compliance programs, and platform integrations, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to optimize payment flows, checkout experiences, and merchant-facing tools.
  • Build, mentor, and lead high-performing operational teams, fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Represent the company in partner, regulatory, and industry discussions, maintaining credibility and strong external relationships.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of progressive operational leadership experience, with at least 5 years in a senior executive role within payments, fintech, or payments-adjacent SaaS.
  • Deep expertise in payments ecosystems, including acquiring, processing, fraud, chargebacks, and merchant services.
  • Proven record of cost optimization, financial management, and operational efficiency improvements.
  • Strong project and programme management skills, managing complex, cross-functional, and compliance-sensitive initiatives.
  • Hands-on experience implementing AI-driven workflows, automation, and agent-based process improvements.
  • Familiarity with PCI-DSS, payments compliance frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, data-driven decision-making, and fluency in fintech metrics.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience managing distributed or remote teams across multiple time zones.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
