About This Position

Senior Power System Engineer

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Power System Engineer in United States.

This role is a high-impact technical leadership position focused on advancing generation and merchant transmission interconnection processes within the ERCOT power market. You will lead complex power system studies and modeling efforts that directly influence grid reliability, renewable integration, and interconnection strategy for large-scale energy projects. The position combines advanced engineering analysis with client-facing responsibilities, requiring both deep technical expertise and the ability to communicate complex grid impacts clearly to stakeholders. You will oversee and contribute to detailed system modeling using industry-standard tools while mentoring junior engineers and guiding technical direction across projects. This is a highly autonomous role where you will shape study methodologies, support business development, and influence the evolution of modern grid infrastructure. The environment is collaborative, innovation-driven, and focused on enabling a more resilient and sustainable energy future.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead generation and load interconnection studies within the ERCOT region, serving as the primary technical expert on interconnection processes from application through commercial operation.
  • Develop, validate, and maintain detailed power system models using tools such as PSS/E, PSCAD, and TSAT for renewable and conventional energy projects.
  • Perform advanced grid studies including reactive power analysis, short-circuit studies, stability assessments, protection coordination, arc flash, and transient overvoltage analysis.
  • Identify optimal interconnection strategies by analyzing grid capacity, system constraints, and project impacts.
  • Support proposal development, scope definition, and business development efforts for new engineering engagements.
  • Lead technical discussions with clients, utilities, and internal stakeholders, representing the organization in industry meetings and forums.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, contributing to technical development and knowledge sharing across the team.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of modeling methodologies, study approaches, and internal engineering standards.
  • Ensure high-quality deliverables and maintain strong ownership of technical reports and analyses.
  • Collaborate across teams to enhance interconnection strategy and support grid modernization initiatives.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience in power systems engineering, preferably with a focus on transmission or generation interconnection studies.
  • Strong expertise in ERCOT interconnection processes from application through commercial operation; experience with other ISOs is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with power system simulation tools such as PSS/E, PSCAD, and TSAT.
  • Strong understanding of renewable energy systems including solar PV, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
  • Experience performing advanced power system studies including stability, fault analysis, and reactive power compensation.
  • Familiarity with ERCOT Model Quality Testing (MQT) is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical modeling skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality engineering outputs under minimal supervision.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to build relationships with internal teams and external clients.
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation aligned with senior engineering roles in the energy sector.
  • Flexible remote work options with occasional travel requirements (10% or less).
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
  • 401(k) plan with up to 4% company match, fully vested from day one.
  • Generous paid time off and paid holidays.
  • Employee ownership program (MYShare).
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge renewable energy and grid modernization projects.
  • Collaborative environment working alongside industry-leading experts in power systems.
  • Exposure to advanced grid modeling and high-impact interconnection projects shaping the future of energy.
