Position Overview

The Equipment Operator performs a variety of manual and equipment operation tasks supporting cement plant production. This role is responsible for operating heavy equipment, handling raw materials, inspecting and servicing machinery, and maintaining clean and safe work areas. The Equipment Operator works closely with the Shift Foreman and Control Room to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous plant operations.

What You'll Do

  • Operate a front-end loader to load marl, limestone, gypsum, clinker, and other materials into appropriate hoppers or feeders.
  • Load, level, push, distribute, and relocate materials as needed to support plant operations.
  • Fill or bag material bins for the raw mill grinding system.
  • Inspect heavy equipment and machinery for wear, leaks, and spillage prior to use.
  • Service equipment by checking oil, water, air levels, and greasing motors and related components.
  • Log safety and maintenance status of equipment prior to operation.
  • Clean chutes, machinery, and work areas, including removing material spills.
  • Maintain communication with the Shift Foreman and Control Room regarding operational status.
  • Participate on continuous improvement teams and contribute ideas to increase efficiency and improve work processes.
  • Complete required safety and equipment inspection checklists prior to and during shift.
  • Conduct area equipment inspections and update check sheets throughout shift.
  • Learn, understand, and comply with all company and plant safety policies, procedures, and MSHA regulations.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions and ensure safe operation of assigned machinery and vehicles.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Leads, Foreman, Supervisors, or Management.

What You'll Bring

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Mechanical aptitude with experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of hand tools and basic equipment maintenance practices.
  • Ability to inspect and service equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Ability to understand and follow supervisor instructions, safety rules, operating procedures, and hazard notices.
  • Ability to recognize abnormal equipment conditions and take appropriate action.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in the safe operation of equipment and machinery.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in emergency situations.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous experience in cement operations preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience operating heavy equipment required.

Other Qualifications

  • Ability to work safely in a fast-paced industrial environment.
  • Ability to work extended shifts of 8 to 12 hours as required.
