Consor is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our Construction Services team as a Materials Laboratory Technician. This position focuses primarily on laboratory testing of construction materials in support of heavy civil transportation and infrastructure projects. Position Overview: The Materials Laboratory Technician plays a critical role in ensuring construction materials meet project specifications and industry standards. This position performs standardized laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt; documents results; and supports engineers and project managers with accurate, timely data. A strong attention to detail, commitment to safety, and adherence to established testing procedures are essential for success.
Responsibilities
Laboratory Testing
- Perform laboratory testing of construction materials including:
- Aggregate gradations
- Proctor moisture-density relationships
- Concrete cylinder strength testing
- Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) testing
- Conduct tests in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and project-specific procedures
- Prepare, label, handle, and store material samples properly
Documentation & Reporting
- Accurately record test data and perform required calculations
- Prepare daily materials testing data sheets and laboratory reports
- Maintain organized testing records and documentation
Collaboration & Quality Support
- Work closely with engineers, project managers, and fellow technicians to support quality assurance efforts
- Communicate test results and material concerns professionally and clearly
Laboratory & Equipment Maintenance
- Maintain laboratory testing equipment and tools
- Follow safety protocols and proper laboratory procedures
- Keep the laboratory clean, organized, and inspection-ready
Qualifications
- Prior experience in construction materials testing or laboratory work preferred
- Familiarity with construction documentation and testing procedures is a plus
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standardized procedures
- High school diploma required; an associate degree or coursework in civil engineering, construction technology, or materials science is preferred.
- Valid Utah Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications
- 1–2 years of experience in construction materials testing, geotechnical lab work, or civil construction services
- Familiarity with ASTM and AASHTO standards
- Entry-level certifications such as:
- ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician Grade I
- NICET Level I – Construction Materials Testing
- Or equivalent certifications
