Job Description

Job Title: Junior Accountant

Speare Memorial Hospital is seeking a detail-oriented Junior Accountant to support general accounting operations and financial reporting. This role contributes to the accuracy and integrity of the organization’s financial data, assists with month-end close, and supports audits and regulatory reporting.

This is an ideal opportunity for an early-career accounting professional to develop technical skills and gain exposure to a wide range of accounting functions within a collaborative healthcare environment.

What You’ll Do:

  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including preparing and reconciling general ledger accounts
  • Prepare journal entries and maintain supporting documentation
  • Support financial reporting and ensure accuracy of accounting records
  • Assist in the preparation of state and federal financial reports
  • Participate in the annual financial audit and support audit requests
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within accounting workflows and help implement solutions
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure accurate financial data and reporting
  • Provide cross-functional support within the Finance team as needed (e.g., reconciliations, reporting, or analysis)
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and applicable regulations
  • Demonstrate the organization’s mission and values through teamwork, respect, and communication
  • Track and communicate progress toward personal and professional development goals

What We’re Looking For:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 0-3 years of accounting or related experience
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Outlook)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Experience in a healthcare or provider setting
