About This Position

Description:

A Deck Inspection, Repair, and Construction Superintendent in the Atlanta area is responsible for overseeing all on-site activities for exterior projects, with a special focus on decks. This person ensures projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality standards while prioritizing site safety.

Requirements:

1. Project planning and management

  • Develop and manage project schedules, coordinate subcontractors, and oversee daily on-site activities from start to finish.
  • Provide timely updates on project progress to project managers, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Procure and manage materials and equipment to ensure they arrive on schedule.
  • Generate and track cost estimates, monitor project budgets, and review and approve invoices.

2. Construction oversight and quality control

  • Conduct routine quality inspections of all work, verifying it meets project specifications, building codes, and company standards.
  • Monitor progress to ensure work is completed on time, addressing on-site issues and resolving conflicts quickly.
  • Perform punch-list identification and completion at the end of projects.
  • Maintain clear, detailed project files, including daily logs, progress reports, and photos.

3. Inspection and repair

  • Inspect existing decks and other exterior components to create a scope of work for repair or replacement.
  • Conduct pre- and post-construction inspections with clients and other parties to ensure all work meets requirements.
  • Address and resolve issues related to deck deterioration, structural problems, and cosmetic repairs.

4. Safety and compliance

  • Ensure strict compliance with all company safety policies and local regulations, including OSHA standards.
  • Conduct regular on-site safety meetings and enforce the proper use of safety equipment.
  • Identify and mitigate potential safety hazards to maintain a safe and productive work environment.
  • Obtain necessary permits and coordinate required inspections with local jurisdictions.

5. Team leadership and customer relations

  • Supervise and provide guidance to on-site crews and subcontractors, fostering strong working relationships.
  • Manage a vendor base for materials and subcontracted work, holding them accountable for quality and schedule requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with clients throughout the project to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Resolve any on-site conflicts or issues diplomatically to keep the project on track.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Structural Engineering, or a related field (preferred). Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5+ years of experience in construction, with a focus on exterior and/or deck-specific projects.
  • Skills: Strong leadership, communication, time-management, and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Technical knowledge: Ability to read blueprints and construction documents, understand building codes, and use construction management software.
  • Certifications: OSHA certification and experience with specific materials (e.g., composite decking) may be required.
