Responsible for gift shop operations for evening and weekends. Assists with preparation and display of merchandise. Performs cashier duties while demonstrating excellent customer service.
REPORTS TO- Gift Shop Manager
Supervisory Responsibilities: YES
Minimum Education: High School/GED Required.
Degree: General
Minimum Work Experience: 1 year retail cashiering experience required

- Proficient with cash registers
- Operates the gift shop during evenings and week-ends to assure timely opening and closing and adheres to gift shop policies and procedures to assure effective operations.
- Assures accurate cashiering and safety and security of merchandise and assists custmers with merchandise and problem resolution.
- Proactively communicates with gift shop manager or assistant manager regarding issues with customers or operational problems and trains and supervises evening and week-end volunteers.
- Assists in maintaining the stock room, pricing merchandise, and restocking merchandise and assists in maintaining displays and general order and appearance of merchandise to encourage sales.
- Accurately and efficiently receives and handles telephone orders, and assures timely delivery of telephone orders.
- Represents Children’s Hospital to the community and promotes the hospital’s mission and initiatives and represents the department and gift shop throughout the hospital, promoting effective and appropriate volunteer service which make efficient and effective use of volunteer skills and time.
- Develops and cultivates positive relationships with customers and supports strategies to expand the gift shop’s service excellence and service to patients, families, visitors and staff.
- Collaborates with all customers, internal and external, to support excellence in retail operations as a vital part of the delivery of care and continuously demonstrates a positive attitude within the department and gift shop and across departmental lines to assure excellence in the customer service program.
- Actively promotes and mentors volunteers in principles of effective customer service and builds strong and positive relationships with volunteers, hospital staff and visitors.
- Role-models effective customer service to volunteers, demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of colleagues, volunteers, patients, families and visitors, and considerately and professionally handles conflicts.
- Works effectively as part of the departmental team and intra-departmentally to facilitate achievement of goals and objectives and willingly accepts new assignments and responsibilities as requested.
- Respects and assures appropriate stewardship of financial resources and utilizes hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably.
- Manages time efficiently and productively to complete job responsibilities.
- Actively supports and assures systems to assure appropriate management and usage of merchandise.
- Assures safety and security of merchandise and equipment.
- Light lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 10-20 lbs occasionally, and frequent moving of objects of less than 10 lbs. Frequent sitting with some walking, standing, squatting, bending, and reaching is required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
