Sunshine Communities, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Northwest Ohio supporting individuals with developmental disabilities through residential, vocational, clinical, therapeutic, and recreational services. These services are offered in various circumstances including at our Maumee, Ohio campus and at homes within the community. In addition to programs on campus, Sunshine individuals and staff operate in downtown Maumee, Georgette's Grounds and Gifts, a coffee shop and Sunshine Studios, an art studio space with a fair trade gift store offering classes to individuals and the community.
SUMMARY:
Provide leadership and day-to-day management to the Activity Center at Sunshine. This includes developing and marketing our recreational and aquatic programs to both the community and other organizations while coordinating activities for aquatics, the multisensory room and gym through the performance of the following duties.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree four-year college or university strongly preferred and one or more years' experience in pool management, or a combination of education and relevant experience
- One or more years' experience in supervision strongly preferred
- Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, frequently reach with hands and arms
- Regularly required to talk or hear
- Frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel
- Occasionally exposed to blood borne pathogens
- Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Valid Driver's license and Proof of auto insurance
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following:
Manages employees in the Aquatics programs. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these areas. Carries out manager responsibilities in accordance with Sunshine's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
- Act as a representative for Sunshine and the Aquatics department. This may include providing tours for representatives from other organizations and/or visiting other organizations, providing resources and education
- Develops, markets and promotes recreational and aquatics programs within Sunshine and to community organizations
- Work in conjunction with Sunshine's Communications Department to update and review marketing materials for Sunshine's recreational facilities and submit for display to organizations outside of Sunshine
- Provide recommendations and assists with development of strategic connections and partnerships in the community that provide social and economic opportunities in the pool, multisensory room and gym
- Ensures the maintenance, cleanliness and upkeep of the pool, locker room areas, gym and multisensory room
- Keeps an inventory of supplies and orders, as needed, while following Sunshine's budget and ordering processes
- Manage, review, coordinate and submit billing to the finance department on revenue from the gym, multisensory room and pool areas
- Complete purchase orders/requisitions for needed items for the pool, multisensory room and gym. Works with CSD on capital purchases and preventative maintenance of the pool
- Manages, coordinates and executes annual shut down of the pool with maintenance department
- Manage and schedule the pool use for individuals of Sunshine and other outside parties
- Provide direct supervision of the lifeguards and ensure certifications are current. Manage and schedule the lifeguards to ensure adequate coverage for programs and adjust schedules as needed for additional groups and/or pool closures
- Manage, schedule and coordinate rental appointments to organize social and recreational events by request for the pool, multisensory room and gym
- Provide professional, timely and friendly customer service and clear communication to a variety of clientele via phone, email, written and verbal communication
- Access and adapt recreational and aquatic programs to meet needs of individuals with all abilities
- Provide ongoing staff training in lifeguard skills, chemical maintenance and policies and procedure of the pool and of Sunshine
- Attend management meetings and collaborate with team members to support the organization goals.
- Support Sunshine events and special activities that promote community involvement and inclusion
- Maintain a Red Cross lifeguard certification and may be scheduled as a lifeguard as needed
- Complete the lifeguard trainer certification which will allow the aquatics manager to certify or recertify Sunshine lifeguard staff as needed
- Must obtain and successfully complete the Certified Pool Operator certification and work with maintenance and outside pool company to maintain the operation of the pool, pump room, chemical maintenance, etc.
- Ensures that the pool area is in compliance with the Health Department regulations and participates in regular training and inspections. Consults with the Health Department inspector as needed
