The Director of the Educational Opportunity Program provides a team-based and role-model approach to inter and intra-departmental initiatives in support of student success and graduation for the EOP program. Under the general direction of the Associate Dean, the Coordinator/Director administers the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) while assisting with the implementation of the Alfred State Opportunity Program (ASOP). The individual collaborates on the selection of qualified students, leads the staff, and has responsibility for maintaining the budgetary and administrative operations for a program that enrolls approximately 100 students, and assists in the programming and retention efforts for ASOP first-year students. The Coordinator/Director will, through a coordinated, collaborative, and integrated approach develop and implement student recruitment, enrollment, retention, and assessment activities, including implementation of a summer program, to ensure operational efficiencies. This position is a 12-month appointment.



Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree (in higher education administration or leadership, organizational leadership, school counseling, public administration, or other related field), or a master's degree plus adequate directly related previous experience.
  • At least two years of experience directly related to higher education, emphasis on working with diverse groups and/or historically underrepresented and underserved populations.
  • Experience leading professional teams or programs in higher education.
  • Demonstrated leadership that promotes equity and facilitates collaboration across multiple departments.
  • Experience with data management systems.
  • Strong work ethic with demonstrated collaborative and coordination skills.
  • Proven commitment to working within student centered environments and programs
  • Strong understanding of and commitment to fostering inclusive work and learning environments
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and academic coaching skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 3-5 years of experience directly related to higher education, emphasis on working with special populations and/or with economically or educationally underrepresented and underserved students
  • Experience working with opportunity and access programs
  • Experience with academic advising and/or career exploration.
  • Admissions, enrollment, and/or financial aid experience, a plus.
  • Bilingual, a plus.
  • Experience with assessment, data collection, and analyses.
  • Experience leading or coordinating summer program development, or equivalent.
