FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Effective: August 2025

Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the Fleet Foreman, the Fleet Technician I is responsible for entry level repairs, maintenance, and overhauling of fleet vehicles and equipment.

Education/Training/Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent. Class “C” Texas driver’s license. Ability to obtain a Class “B” CDL with Hazmat and Tanker endorsement within a timely manner. Essential Job Functions:

Performs skilled repair and maintenance on a variety of equipment and vehicles such as replacing bearings, axle seals, brake cylinders, drums, and rotors. Performs mechanical overhauls to the city’s fleet and equipment. Answers service calls and services equipment as required. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned. Inspects parts for wear, repairs, overhauls, and replaces parts as needed. Realigns and adjusts brakes and suspension components and repairs and maintains hydraulic systems. Performs routine vehicle and equipment preventive maintenance inspections. Responds to emergencies as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of basic methods, safe work practices and techniques in fleet maintenance. Skills in the use of hand and power tools. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to work effectively in the absence of supervision. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Physical Demands/Work Environment: Lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds; pulling, pushing or dragging up to 150 pounds of repair equipment and materials; climbing, crawling, kneeling, squatting, stooping and bending freely when participating in repairs; sitting, standing or walking for extended periods of time; working indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings and inclement weather; and some exposure to mechanical, electrical and explosive hazards dust, using proper safety precautions. May work in tight and enclosed areas, May be exposed to high noise levels.
