Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Manager to lead all aspects of compounding operations in our state-of-the-art 503A facility. This role is responsible for overseeing sterile compounding processes, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards, optimizing production workflows, and driving quality assurance initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership capabilities, advanced knowledge of USP <797> and <800> standards, and a proven ability to manage a high-performing compounding team dedicated to patient safety and service excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Compounding Operations Management
- Direct and oversee daily sterile compounding activities, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
- Monitor production schedules to ensure timely fulfillment of patient-specific compounded prescriptions.
- Implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.
Regulatory Compliance & Quality Control
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local pharmacy regulations, including DEA and Texas State Board of Pharmacy requirements.
- Maintain strict compliance with USP <797> and <800> standards, including environmental monitoring and staff competencies.
- Enforce and regularly update standard operating procedures (SOPs) to reflect current best practices and regulatory changes.
Leadership & Staff Development
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and compounding support staff.
- Conduct ongoing training on aseptic technique, hazardous drug handling, and quality assurance protocols.
- Foster a team culture focused on accountability, precision, and continuous improvement.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with clinical pharmacists, quality, compliance, and operations teams to ensure seamless workflow from prescription intake to delivery.
- Collaborate with patient care teams to clarify formulations, resolve compounding-related issues, and ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Inventory & Resource Management
- Oversee the sourcing, receipt, and storage of bulk active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), excipients, and compounding supplies.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels to support uninterrupted operations while minimizing waste and cost.
Patient-Centered Service Excellence
- Champion a culture of safety and service, ensuring compounded medications are prepared accurately and delivered promptly.
- Lead quality initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes and satisfaction.
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited institution.
- Active, unrestricted pharmacist license in good standing with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
- Minimum of three (3) years of professional pharmacy experience in a sterile/non-sterile compounding environment.
- Minimum of two (2) years of direct supervisory or management experience in pharmacy compounding operations.
- Advanced knowledge of USP <797> and <800> standards, with demonstrated compliance history.
- Strong understanding of 503A compounding pharmacy regulations and quality assurance principles.
- Proficiency with pharmacy management systems, compounding software, and electronic health records.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited institution.
- Active, unrestricted pharmacist license in good standing with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy Board
- Experience in a high-volume compounding setting with both sterile and hazardous drug preparation.
- Prior leadership experience in a regulated healthcare or pharmaceutical production environment.
- Strong background in process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
- Certification in Sterile Compounding (e.g., BCSCP) or other relevant specialty certification
