How do I make a difference on my team?
The Director of Sales is primarily responsible for leading & driving top line revenue strategy for traditional sales related segments to include group, volume transient & catering. The individual is additionally responsible for staying ahead of market trends, market share movement and ongoing competitive hotel analysis, while directing the property sales teams (rooms & catering) to insure budgeted revenues are met or exceeded. The Director of Sales is also responsible for developing and implementing a marketing communications plan designed to achieve the desired positioning for the hotel, as well as managing the sales and marketing budget that supports revenue attainment.
Job Summary
The Director of Sales oversees all sales efforts and team members in the department. The Director of Sales is responsible for the growth of current client relationships and all new account sourcing. The Director of Sales possesses expert knowledge of the subject matter and handles complex issues. This position may occasionally provide task force support to the portfolio.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversees all sales team members (minimum of two full-time FTE) with the authority to interview, select and set the pay of team members; discipline team members; make formal termination recommendations; and investigate and adjudicate complaints.
- Identifies and executes multiple sales strategies to increase the hotel’s client base and top line revenue across designated segments (BT, SMERF, F&B, Government).
- Qualifies each potential piece of business by pre-call planning, identifying hot buttons and overcoming obstacles.
- Conducts proactive sales call activities in the market and consistently meets the weekly goal expectations that are set by sales leadership.
- Responds to all potential leads and inquiries in a timely manner and customizes responses to each client’s needs.
- Conducts day-to-day social media activities, including posting, responding to comments/messages, and creating engaging content to attract and retain followers on multiple platforms.
- Maintains current knowledge related to competition, trends, and market conditions and effectively applies strategies to increase business.
- Prepares weekly reporting requirements in a timely manner.
- Creates and maintains positive and professional staff and client relationships.
- Presents the hotel in an appealing way to prospective clients by telling intriguing stories and describing available opportunities including on-site property tours and off-site client interactions.
- Documents all sales activities and booking in accordance with expected standards in related systems.
- Participates in local hospitality and community networking events.
- Performs all group savvy tasks as needed.
- Oversees onboarding, training, and sales blitzes.
- Performs additional responsibilities as assigned by leadership.

Requirements:- At least 3+years' experience as a sales leader, with prior hotel sales experience.
- Experience dealing with/communicating with ownership groups & investors.
- Proficient in managing/using sales automation (DELPHI) & PMS systems.
- Experience working collaboratively with revenue management.
- Well-rounded knowledge of all market segments and channel sources, as well as ability to develop a strategic plan for each.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to direct, lead, train, motivate & drive a direct sales team; and develop a cooperative & competitive team spirit & winning attitude.
- Must be proficient in MS Office including Word, Excel, and Power Point.
- Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines
- Prior supervisory experience required.
