About This Position
Mental Health Kokua (MHK) is hiring a Kauhale Housing Custodian on Oahu for our Iwilei Kauhale supportive housing program. This community-based housing setting values safety, cleanliness, and shared responsibility, and plays an important role in supporting stability for residents.
As a Kauhale Housing Custodian, you will support adults living in shared housing by ensuring common areas, facilities, and outdoor spaces are clean, safe, and well maintained. Your work helps promote dignity, routine, and a respectful, home-like environment for all who live and work in the community.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
- Facility Cleaning: Maintain cleanliness of hallways, offices, bathrooms, and common areas
- Floor Care: Sweep, mop, vacuum, and assist with floor maintenance including waxing and buffing
- Sanitation: Clean and sanitize bathrooms, dining areas, and high-use surfaces
- Supplies Management: Stock and monitor custodial supplies and notify leadership when needed
- Waste Management: Empty trash, replace liners, and maintain disposal areas
- Maintenance Support: Perform minor repairs including plumbing, painting, and basic electrical tasks
- Equipment & Upkeep: Clean fans, maintain air filters, and replace light bulbs as needed
- Safety & Reporting: Report maintenance needs and ensure tools and equipment are properly stored
Kauhale Housing Custodian Qualifications
- Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent
- Preferred: Two (2) years of custodial and/or building maintenance experience
- Skills: Strong attention to detail, reliability, communication skills, problem-solving, and ability to work as part of a team
- Certifications: CPR, First Aid, TB clearance (or willingness to obtain)
- Fit for the Role: Comfortable working in a shared housing environment supporting adults in a community-based setting
Requirements & Work Conditions
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening
- Work takes place in a shared housing/residential environment
- Work involves standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 25 lbs), and using cleaning equipment
