About This Position
Are you detail-oriented and enjoy working behind the scenes to make sure everything is in place before a patient receives care? Our clinic is seeking an Authorization Specialist to help coordinate insurance approvals and support our clinical team. This role is essential in ensuring patients receive timely treatment while keeping our scheduling and authorization process running smoothly.
The Authorization Specialist is responsible for obtaining insurance prior authorizations for medical procedures, diagnostic testing, and other services. This position works closely with providers, clinical staff, scheduling teams, and insurance companies to ensure required approvals are obtained prior to services being performed. The Authorization Specialist helps support efficient scheduling, minimize claim denials, and provide excellent service to patients.
Requirements:- Obtain prior authorizations and referrals for procedures, imaging, surgeries, and other services as required by insurance carriers.
- Communicate with insurance companies via phone or online portals to verify authorization requirements and obtain approvals.
- Track and follow up on pending authorization requests to ensure timely processing.
- Document authorization information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) or practice management system.
- Coordinate with providers, clinical staff, and scheduling teams regarding authorization status.
- Notify staff or patients of authorization approvals, denials, or additional information needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and clinic policies.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience with medical insurance, prior authorizations, or healthcare revenue cycle preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes helpful.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced clinical environment.
