Position Number: S80750

This position is a Grade: 12 - 40 with an approximate salary range of $103,300 - $125,660 and is subject to change based on experience, skills and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide strategic leadership and long-term vision for campus research computing and scientific computing services.
• Develop, implement, and continuously refine a comprehensive Research Computing strategic plan in collaboration with LTS leadership, the Research Computing Steering Committee, and campus stakeholders.
• Partner with University leadership, faculty, and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs to support grant development, including defining technical standards and requirements for proposals.
• Manage Research Computing budgets, cost-recovery models, and financial planning to ensure sustainable and efficient service delivery.
• Establish, implement, and oversee policies, procedures, and governance for the effective and secure use of research computing systems, including storage, access, and job submissions.
• Lead, supervise, and develop the LTS Research Computing team, including performance management, professional development, and annual evaluations of staff and student employees.
• Coordinate cross-functional collaboration with Systems, Networking, Security, and Library partners to deliver integrated and reliable research computing solutions.
• Oversee the evaluation, procurement, and implementation of research computing hardware, software, cloud resources, and vendor services in alignment with institutional policies.
• Direct the delivery of advanced technical consulting, application support, training, and performance optimization services for PIs and research groups.
• Design and manage research computing support strategies, service metrics, and user engagement initiatives to improve adoption, satisfaction, and research outcomes.
• Serve as the University’s campus champion for national research cyberinfrastructure programs (e.g., XSEDE/ACCESS), advising researchers on appropriate resource utilization.
• Support and participate in research funding activities by collaborating on grant proposals, advising on Data Management Plans, cultivating external partnerships, and leading strategic research technology initiatives.

Qualifications:
• Doctorate Degree in Science (Chemistry, Physics, Biology, etc.), Engineering, Computer or Information Sciences, a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience
• Five to eight years of related work experience
• Experience with and a thorough knowledge of the administration of UNIX-based systems (Redhat, Cent OS)
• Expertise in the development, support, parallelization, optimization, and benchmarking of scientific applications and code using tools like Fortran, C/C++, MPI, OpenMP
• Experience with and a thorough knowledge of queuing systems and grid software solutions
• Experience in designing, deploying, and administering UNIX-based HPC systems, preferably in an academic environment
