About the Role – Documentation & Compliance Specialist

The Documentation & Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring all member documentation, case notes, eligibility records, and service files meet agency, Medicaid, SCN, and HRSN compliance standards. This position plays a key role in maintaining audit readiness, improving documentation quality, and supporting accurate billing and reimbursement processes across all StrongSteps Behavioral Health programs.

The Documentation & Compliance Specialist works closely with Care Managers, Intake staff, Housing Specialists, and leadership to review records, identify missing or incomplete documentation, and ensure services are properly documented according to organizational and payer requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Review member records and case notes for accuracy and compliance
  • Verify required documentation for screenings, care management, housing, and support services
  • Monitor documentation completion timelines and staff compliance
  • Assist with audit preparation and quality assurance activities
  • Track missing documentation and communicate corrections to staff
  • Support billing readiness reviews and documentation verification
  • Maintain organized electronic records and compliance tracking systems
  • Assist leadership with compliance reporting and internal monitoring
  • Ensure adherence to Medicaid, HRSN, SCN, and organizational policies
  • Collaborate with operational and clinical staff to improve documentation standards
Qualifications
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Experience in healthcare, behavioral health, case management, compliance, or administrative support preferred
  • Ability to review documentation for accuracy and completeness
  • Strong written communication and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable managing confidential information and sensitive records
  • Basic computer and electronic documentation experience required
  • Knowledge of Medicaid, HRSN, or social care documentation preferred
Employment Details

  • Hourly, Non-Exempt
  • Starting Pay: $24–$26/hour
  • Opportunities for advancement within the organization

The pay range for this role is:
24 - 26 USD per hour(NY)
