Salary Grade: L5
Reports to: Transfer Station Manager/Solid Waste Manager
Date: April 2025
Summary/Objective: Operates various pieces of heavy equipment utilized in the construction and operation of Daviess County Solid Waste facilities and drives gasoline or diesel-powered tractor trailer combination to transport and deliver solid waste materials.
Essential Functions:
· Inspects vehicles or equipment for maintenance and safety problems before and after each trip or use, paying special attention to truck tires, lights, and tarps when driving truck.
· Checks oil and fluid levels of vehicles or equipment daily.
· Removes tire and metal from solid waste deposits.
· Assures that waste is rotated on an ongoing basis.
· Loads all incoming tractor trailers with waste.
· Operates trucks and walking-floor trailers within guidelines of state and federal rules and regulations.
· Safely drives truck to destination.
· Ensures that solid waste load is properly tarped when driving a truck.
· Assists laborers in loading and unloading trucks.
· Drives diesel powered roll-off to transport and deliver solid waste material.
· Welds and fabricates various pieces of county owned equipment.
· Other duties as assigned by the Solid Waste Manager.

· Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
· Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
· Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Position type and expected hours of work: Overtime is required.
Required education and experience: High school diploma or GED. One to two years of related experience and/or training.
Additional eligibility qualifications: Valid Kentucky driver’s license; Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A; safe driving record.
