This role plays a critical part in ensuring that development finance projects meet rigorous environmental and social standards across Latin America. You will evaluate, monitor, and guide projects to ensure compliance with international frameworks while helping mitigate environmental, social, and health risks. Acting as a regional expert, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, government stakeholders, private sector actors, and civil society to support responsible investment outcomes. The position combines technical assessment, regulatory interpretation, and field engagement, including potential site visits. Operating in a highly international and mission-driven environment, your work will directly influence sustainable development and investment decisions. This is a consulting role requiring both analytical depth and strong stakeholder engagement skills.
In this role, you will assess and monitor environmental and social risks across development finance projects, ensuring alignment with international standards and institutional policies. You will also provide technical guidance and support compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Conduct environmental and social risk assessments for projects, primarily in Latin America, using international standards such as IFC Performance Standards and DFC policies.
- Review and evaluate environmental and social documentation, including impact assessments, management systems, and action plans.
- Perform gap analyses and develop corrective action plans to ensure compliance with applicable frameworks and regulations.
- Monitor project performance through reports, data analysis, and site visits to identify risks, non-compliance, and required mitigation measures.
- Provide technical guidance to clients on environmental and social requirements, documentation standards, and capacity-building needs.
- Coordinate with internal teams, co-lenders, and external consultants to ensure consistent application of assessment methodologies.
- Prepare detailed reports and recommendations to support decision-making and corrective actions for ongoing projects.
This position requires strong expertise in environmental and social impact assessment, combined with international development experience and excellent analytical and communication skills. The ideal candidate brings regional knowledge of Latin America and the ability to work across diverse stakeholder groups.
- At least 5 years of experience in environmental and social impact assessments or related review and evaluation work.
- Strong knowledge of IFC Performance Standards and international environmental and social frameworks.
- Experience working with development finance institutions (DFIs) and/or private sector projects, ideally in Latin America.
- Fluency in both Spanish and English.
- Background in environmental science, social sciences, engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of environmental and social management systems and risk assessment methodologies.
- Ability to interpret and apply international, national, and local environmental and social regulations.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with experience working with governments, NGOs, and private sector actors.
- U.S. citizenship required with eligibility for Public Trust clearance.
