Position Details

The Director, Recruitment, National Aspiring Principals Fellowship® will be based out of a home office located anywhere within the contiguous United States (Pacific, Mountain, Central, and Eastern time zones) or United States territories that fall within the Atlantic time zone.

Position Overview

The Director, Recruitment, National Aspiring Fellowship Program® will drive and manage the daily execution of recruitment efforts for New Leaders’ National Aspiring Principals Fellowship program. The Director will lead the operational implementation of strategies to meet enrollment goals. This role requires hands-on leadership in developing and managing pipelines, tracking performance metrics, ensuring collaboration with marketing, partnerships, and admissions teams, and refining processes to optimize recruitment operations. The Director will work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment with organizational strategy and KPIs and provide data-driven insights to enhance recruitment performance and outcomes for the National Aspiring Principals Fellowship program.

The Director, Recruitment, National Aspiring Fellowship Program® reports directly to the Senior Executive Director, Marketing & Communications.

Specific Responsibilities

Day-to-Day Recruitment Leadership

  • Oversee the recruitment pipeline for the National Aspiring Principals Fellowship® Program (“the Fellowship” or “Program”), from application start through application complete, ensuring prospective students are effectively engaged and supported throughout the application process.
  • Create and oversee workflows for managing leads, inquiries, and applications to ensure the team is consistently delivering high-quality service and support tto prospective students. Ensure accountability for follow-up, lead management, and progress toward enrollment goals.
  • Plan and execute recruitment events, including webinars, virtual fairs, and in-person info sessions, to increase engagement with prospective students. Host and facilitate student information sessions during evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Represent New Leaders at conferences, industry events, and strategic partner meetings to enhance reputation, build relationships, and cultivate recruitment pipelines. Support event planning and execution, including registration tracking, scheduling, booth management, and follow-up communication.
  • Lead the development and execution of communication strategies, including email and digital campaigns, social media outreach, webinars, content creation, and one-on-one consultations, to build strong connections with potential students using cohesive messaging in furtherance of recruitment goals.
  • Collaborate with the admissions team to create a seamless handoff process from recruitment to enrollment, addressing any gaps in communication or operations.
  • Conduct individual outreach and follow up with candidates to assess their fit for our candidate profiles and inspire and nurture qualified candidates to apply. Counsel qualified prospective students, including contacting and advising prospective students concerning program admission requirements and application steps.
  • Coordinate recruitment efforts across multiple programs, ensuring consistency in messaging, branding, and service delivery.

Performance Monitoring and Reporting

  • Monitor daily and weekly recruitment metrics, such as lead generation, conversion rates, and enrollment progress, to assess performance.
  • Identify trends and gaps in recruitment performance, opportunities, and areas for enhancement, supporting longitudinal and cycle-based improvements and adjusting strategies and workflows in real-time to meet targets.
  • Regularly report on recruitment outcomes to stakeholders, providing actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Oversee the use of CRM systems, automation tools, and other technology platforms to enhance recruitment efficiency and improve the prospective student experience. Ensure accurate data tracking, seamless lead management, and effective communication with prospective students.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and implement improvements to streamline processes and support long-term scalability.

Team Leadership

As a people manager, this role is responsible for leading by example and fostering a culture of accountability, performance, and organizational stewardship. Managers are expected to:

  • Oversee the management, mentoring, training, and evaluation of the National Aspiring Fellowship Program recruitment team.
  • Utilize appropriate metrics on a team and individual basis to ensure accountability, impact, and results.
  • Serve as a motivating leader and team builder, while also providing opportunities for staff to increase and enhance their skills.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship and strategic support across recruitment and the wider organization.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on the Fellowship recruitment team to support cohesion in the overall recruitment strategy in support of the organization’s goals around scale, impact, and sustainability.
  • Model organizational values and demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and accountability in all actions.
  • Set and communicate clear performance expectations, ensuring team members understand priorities, deliverables, and success measures.
  • Model and hold direct reports accountable for meeting individual and team goals and organizational stewardship requirements(e.g. timecard submissions, timely completion of mandatory trainings, performance documentation, etc.).
  • Monitor progress toward goals and proactively address performance challenges or barriers to success.
  • Support professional growth and development through regular feedback, coaching, and recognition.
  • Ensure team operations align with organizational standards, policies, and fiscal year objectives.
  • Promote a culture aligned with New Leaders' organizational values.

Qualifications and Competencies  

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree required.   
  • Professional Experience:Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience required, including recruitment, admissions, enrollment, account management, and/or client engagement experience. 
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the higher education and/or online learning industry.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in admissions or student enrollment services.
  • Team-Driven: Proven ability to collaborate effectively with individuals across a variety of backgrounds and experiences; must be results-driven while maintaining a collaborative and inclusive leadership style.

Additional Skills and Qualifications 

  • Knowledge of the online higher education sector. 
  • Robust process and project management and execution skills,with the ability to operationalize strategies and produce measurable and sustained results.  
  • Demonstrated experience engaging diverse audiences with deep expertise, clarity, and confidence.
  • Possess a strong command of research, real-world insights, and emerging trends, combined with the ability to communicate complex ideas in an accessible, compelling way.
  • A strong command over CRM platforms (including HubSpot and Salesforce) and sales enablement tools.  
  • Ability to diagnose problems quickly, identify bottlenecks, streamline processes, foresee potential issues,and implement best practices and solutions to achieve enrollment targets.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written/verbal communication, organizational, follow-up, consultative sales, and presentation skills.  
  • Deep customer service orientation. 
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and take initiative. 
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.
  • Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently.

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Fluency in all Microsoft Office Applications and basic internet searches; significant experience with Microsoft Office and google applications a strong plus. 
  • Demonstrated ability multi-tasking and prioritizing tasks in an ever-changing, demanding work environment. 
  • Excellent writing, relationship management, and time management skills. 
  • Must be able to travel up to 30% annually aligned to New Leaders’ Travel and In-Person Activities policy.     
  • New Leaders requires each employee to be fully vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccination (i.e., at least two weeks have passed since the employee received the dose of a single-dose vaccine or the second dose of a two-dose vaccine with at least the minimum recommended interval between doses) or to obtain an approved exemption or reasonable accommodation through the People Development & Human Resources team within six weeks of their start date as a term and condition of employment.

Time Commitment

  • This role requires some work to be scheduled during evening or weekend hours.

Physical Requirements

The employee's routine activities involve sitting, talking, and hearing, as well as using hands for tasks such as typing, filing, and handling objects. Visual acuity is necessary for keyboard use, data analysis, transcribing, computer terminal viewing, and extensive reading. The role may involve ordinary ambulatory skills for visits to other locations or the ability to perform activities like standing, walking, lifting, carrying, and moving light-weight items. Proficiency in hand-eye coordination, along with dexterity in arms, hands, and fingers for tasks like grasping, operating standard office equipment, and learning technical information, is essential.
