MECHANIC at Town of Easton – Easton, Maryland

POSITION: Mechanic

REPORTS TO: Shop Supervisor

JOB OBJECTIVES: Perform maintenance and repairs on vehicles and equipment.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to perform heavy physical labor outdoors in all types of weather. Ability to comprehend written instruction and properly maintain repair records. Ability to operate Town owned vehicles and heavy trucks having a G.V.W. in excess of 26000 lbs. Must have or acquire CDL class B license within one year of hire date. CDL training will be provided in house. Full time non-exempt position.

MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS:

Will be required to be on time and maintain attendance requirements.

Must have basic computer skills.

Diagnose mechanical problems and repair equipment such as vehicles, hand operated tools and equipment. Equipment and vehicles may include but not

limited to sanitation trucks, flat bed and box dump trucks, heavy equipment, etc.

Diagnose electrical problems: repair lights, rewiring, etc.

Cut metal, weld metal and fabricate items.

Maintain accurate records of repairs.

Keep inventory of parts and supplies; pick up part as needed.

Perform preventative maintenance including oil and filter changes, fluids, etc.

Raise vehicles with hydraulic lifts or jack.

Clean and maintain safe work area.

Maintain and secure tools.

Rebuild and assemble items such as: hydraulic cylinders, engines, new equipment, etc.

Use variety of hand and power tools such as hammers, wrenches, etc.

Will be required to assist during inclement weather; either in shop or with operating equipment, such as snow plow.

Will be required to bend, twist, squat, kneel, walk and stand for extended periods of time.

Will be required to be work from above, at and below grade, or from ladders.

Perform other duties as directed by appropriate supervisor.
