About This Position
Position Summary:
Assists professional nursing staff by performing specific resident care tasks, within the scope of practice from Certified Nursing Assistant as assigned.
Qualifications:
A. Education:
1. High school graduate or equivalent.
2. The Nursing Assistant will be listed with the Texas Department of Health
Nurse’s Aide Registry.
B. Training and Experience
1. Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association
required within 90 days of hire.
2. Successful completion of general and nursing orientation within 3 months of hire.
3. Completion of the following competencies within 3 months of here or
transfer:
• Unit orientation
• Unit safety
• Attendance requirements
• Code Blue participation
• Safe, effective patient care: patient identification, vital signs, inputs/outputs, personal care, bed-making, patient transfer and reporting
• Appropriate and timely documentation •
Effective time management, organizational and prioritization skills
• Technical skills including equipment use
•Body substance isolation
• Age specific care
• Professional communication
• Restraint Training
• Practice safe handling for patients receiving chemotherapy
VI. Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
A. Ability to perform under stress
B. May encounter exposure to infectious disease.
C. Varied work hours and shifts.
D. Much walking and lifting.
