Position: Outfitters Summer Retail Associate
Reports To: Outfitters Manager & Assistant Manager
Classification: Seasonal – Full Time (Non-Exempt)
Position Summary:
The Outfitters Summer Retail Associate supports the Outfitters department by delivering exceptional member and guest service while maintaining a highly organized, welcoming, and professionally presented retail environment.
This position assists members and guests in selecting outdoor equipment, apparel, and accessories appropriate for their activities while ensuring retail spaces are maintained to the highest presentation standards. Successful candidates demonstrate strong product curiosity, attention to detail, and a hospitality-driven mindset. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy outdoor recreation, take pride in organization and presentation, and value delivering a high-quality retail experience.
Core Responsibilities:
Member & Guest Experience
• Provide friendly, professional, and knowledgeable service to members and guests.
• Assist members and guests with selecting apparel, accessories, and outdoor equipment appropriate for their activity and conditions.
• Build rapport with members through attentive and personalized service.
• Maintain a welcoming retail environment that reflects Outfitters’ hospitality standards.
• Answer product questions and provide thoughtful recommendations based on member needs.
Retail Operations
• Maintain retail floor presentation including merchandising, product organization, and display standards.
• Ensure products are properly folded, hung, sized, and displayed.
• Monitor product levels and assist with restocking merchandise.
• Assist with receiving and organizing retail shipments.
• Maintain fitting rooms, retail displays, and sales areas to high cleanliness standards.
• Support point-of-sale transactions and retail system operations when required.
Product Knowledge
• Develop working knowledge of key brands, apparel technologies, and outdoor equipment.
• Stay informed on seasonal product offerings and recommended uses.
• Assist members with product features, fit, and intended performance.
• Maintain awareness of current department inventory and product availability.
Department Support
• Assist Support daily Outfitters operations by assisting across retail, demo, and general department functions when needed.
• Maintain overall department readiness by ensuring retail, demo, and equipment areas remain organized, clean, and properly stocked throughout the day.
• Assist with preparation of the department for daily opening and closing procedures.
• Support demo program operations during peak periods including equipment organization, check-in/check-out flow, and guest assistance.
• Assist with receiving, organizing, and processing incoming merchandise and equipment.
• Maintain back-of-house organization including storage areas, product staging, and inventory locations.
• Assist with seasonal merchandising transitions, floor resets, and product rotations.
• Help maintain department displays, signage, and visual presentation standards.
• Support inventory organization, tagging, and restocking of retail products.
• Assist team members in maintaining a professional, organized, and welcoming Outfitters environment at all times.
• Contribute to a team-focused work environment by assisting coworkers and supporting department priorities as needed.
Qualifications:
• Interest in outdoor recreation including hiking, biking, fishing, or mountain activities.
• Previous retail or customer service experience preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to learn product information and apply it in member interactions.
• Positive attitude and strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
Physical Demands:
• Ability to stand and move throughout the retail floor for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 40–50 lbs occasionally.
• Frequent bending, reaching, and product handling.
• Ability to assist with moving merchandise and retail fixtures.
Work Environment:
• Hospitality and retail environment.
• Combination of indoor retail space and outdoor recreation setting.
• Weekend, holiday, and peak summer availability required.
• Frequent interaction with members, guests, and multiple departments.
